Publisher's Summary
How do you solve a murder when everyone's a suspect?
Tormented by the recent loss of a colleague, DCI Jack Logan is on the warpath, determined to bring down all those he holds responsible for the officer's death.
His quest for revenge is cut short when a woman's body turns up on the remote island of Canna, and Jack is summoned to investigate. As a storm closes in, Jack finds himself cut-off from the rest of the world, with no car, no phone signal, and only DC Neish for company.
With time running out before the ferries resume, Jack must act fast to crack the case before the killer can escape. But with the victim widely hated on the island, everyone on it is a potential suspect.
Even the scarecrow....
The Last Bloody Straw is the fifth book in the DCI Jack Logan series, set in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Chris Brookmyre, and Stuart Macbride.

Not the best.
Sadly this one didn't quite get it right for me. The story was okay, narration okay, but for the poorly rehearsed Australian accent which sounded like a sorry mixture of Birmingham and South Africa rather than Australia. Disappointing.
This time the most displeasing aspect was the heavy use of foul language. I'm no prude but in my opinion there was far too much of the very rude and crude and for that reason I'm giving this book in the Logan series a 'thumbs down'.

Did not disappoint!
Love the characters, great story line, just downloaded my next JD Kirk book and can't wait to start it!!
Such a wonderful narrator, I can (and have) listen to him all day. My only comment would be that maybe Angus King would be better if he does not have to do an Ozy accent, he is much better with his Scottish accent, so pleased the Ozy was a cameo role which does not detract from the rest of the narrative. Thanks

Expect the Unexpected!
Enjoyed the change of locations, the inferred, but wrong leads, in this story, always leading to double guessing the answers..Good book.

every character harbors secrets,
Kirk weaves an intricate web of suspense, where every character harbors secrets, and danger lurks around every corner. As the storm rages, DCI Logan faces not only the elements but also the darkness within human hearts. If you enjoy atmospheric crime thrillers with a touch of Scottish ruggedness, this book is a must-read

Twists ,turns and humour. This story had it all.
Jack Logans character is developing into my sort of hero. Not for the first time in this series I openly chuckled. Mr Kirk via the outstanding performance of Angus has me wanting to visit the Herbrides as soon as we can get on a plane from the antipodes and travel. I can't believe that there were so many suspects. Fabulous story.

Brilliant story, great characters and bloody funny
I listen to a lot of audiobooks on my long car journeys. I have never written a review but feel compelled to write about this book. Apart from the usual great characters from this writer and the compelling landscape, it was absolutely hilarious. The school scene, the vomit, the ‘voices’ of the characters were just fantastic. Thank you.
