About this listen

Ambition. Passion. Betrayal.

Rita Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the epic first installment of the All the King's Men duet.

Raised to rule, bred to lead, and weaned on a diet of ruthless ambition.

In a world of haves and have-nots, my family has it all, and I want nothing to do with it.

My path takes me far from home and paints me as the black sheep. At odds with my father, I'm determined to build my own empire. I have rules, but Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of them. From the moment we meet, something sparks between us. But my family stole from hers, and my father is the man she hates most. I lied to have her and will do anything to keep her. Though she tries to hate me, too, the inexorable pull between us will not be denied.

And neither will I.

How the rich get richer

This is a good series.
There are many dramas and family disfunction.
There is cross-culture interaction.
This is the first book I've read that has looked at first nation issues in Northern America.
The story deals with climate change and the generational shift from harming the planet to clean energy solutions.
There is political intrigue. Money opens doors to dirty deals.

Cliff-hanger ending, which means you need the next book!

Narrators

The narration was brilliant!
I loved how L and M had their own agendas which developed throughout the story.

quite a story

the only thing I disliked about this audiobook, was the female narrator. She sounded like she was on the verge of tears for about 95% off her part, it was actually annoying to hear, and in future I will avoid starting books she has narratored. Jason Clarke narratored as well, and he did an amazing job at both the male and female rolls. I enjoyed the book though, and look forward to starting book 2 straight away.

Fantastic

Kennedy Ryan never disappoints. Her books and her characters and their stories demand that you fall in love with them. But this book of hers feels different once again. It’s so much more than a love story. Her hero’s are always so dreamy and Maxim is no exception, but it’s her heroins that I relate to, their strength is inspiring. I love how Kennedy researches and has such respect for culture and heritage that she doesn’t want to get it wrong. Her development as an author is apparent and this series so far is another 5 star read.

brilliant

The flow of the story, the rawness, the real issues that dip and flip through the story are so enchanting and gripping. I loved this book from the beginning to the darned cliff hanging dangle, the angst, the swooning, and the grown up handling of a relationship and life between Max and Nix.

Kennedy Ryan is a storyteller in her own right and her books bring the tears just as much as the Love and reality and humanity to her characters and she didn't disappoint.

Not a complete book

There should be a very big warning when it’s not a complete book, especially when it ends on a cliffhanger. Boo.
