About this listen
A completely nail-biting crime thriller
"Mama, wake up." The little girl reached for her mother’s face with one pudgy hand. But the eyes stayed closed, and the blood continued to trickle across the floor.
When the body of a young woman is found, tied to her bed and the victim of a brutal attack in her own home, Detective Morgan Brookes is sickened by what she finds as she searches the house. And unprepared for the nightmares it inspires about her childhood.
When the DNA collected gives a positive ID, Morgan can’t wait to put the attacker behind bars. But the person it matches to is already in prison. How could the DNA of someone who has been locked up for over 20 years have shown up in Morgan’s crime scene? And then they make another close match. To Morgan herself.
Faced with the impossible proof that she is somehow connected to this case, Morgan delves deep into the crimes of a killer who stalked the Lake District two decades ago. But distracted by the old case, she misses the signs that he has found a new victim. And when he strikes close to home, Morgan finally realizes that she has been living on borrowed time. To find this killer, it’s clear she must confront the nightmares in her past....
A heart-racing, nerve-racking crime thriller. Fans of Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, and Patricia Gibney will be completely gripped.

Good but predictable
I'll finish the Detective Morgan series, though I find her slightly irritating but don't know why lol...maybe because she comes across as bit of a know all, instead of the feisty Detective which she is supposedly portraying 🤔 I thought I had this one worked out but of course there's a twist...an obvious one considering the choices of who the killer could be! 😒🤨

Returned
I love Helen Phifer books but when purchasing this one had forgotten they are narrated by Alison Campbell. Without wanting to hurt her feelings, a more pathetic voice of a narrator, I have not heard (and I have purchased over 2000 audible books). PLEASE Helen Phifer, employ another narrator!

Frustratingly unrealistic
Stereotypical, helpless female lead, who has to be rescued by a man after making ridiculous choices that no sane person would make.

Ridiculous, unrealistic twist
Where to begin..
1) only 2 books into this series and no way can this much happen to one woman. *eye roll*
2) the killer and “twist” is so ridiculous I can’t even begin…
3) why does every female need the older boss to save her. Disappointed the female author just adds to this
4) I still can’t stand the whiney narrator who makes the female lead seem so weak and pathetic.
I really wanted to enjoy this series given there are 8 books but I just can’t continue. Never have I stopped a series part way, no matter how bad I’ve persevered. I can’t on this, I just can’t…..
