About this listen

Dawn of Fire Book 5

A depleted Battle Group Praxis returns the slain heir of Kamidar to the Knight world's ruling family – and its embittered ruler, the Iron Queen Orlah.

Listen to it because

Nick Kyme continues the story of the Indomitus Crusade, as a vicious feud breaks out on the Knight world of Kamidar – and the agents of Abaddon are only too happy to stoke the flames.

The story

A war-weary Battle Group Praxis arrives at the Knight world of Kamidar, ruled by the Iron Queen Orlah, to return the queen's slain daughter and heir, who died in Guilliman's name. In truth, the Imperium's mission here is twofold: to strip Kamidar of its resources in order to resupply the flagging armada, and to prepare the Ironhold Protectorate to become part of the defensive Anaxian Line, a crucial bulwark for the Indomitus Crusade.

Yet Kamidar's Knights have survived for many years without the Imperium's aid, and what should have been a simple reunion between allies soon becomes a vicious feud. As division turns loyal souls against one another, the agents of Abaddon move in the shadows, seeking to manipulate this growing rift to their own ends. Can the Imperium restrain itself from laying an old ally asunder, or will the Hand of Abaddon arise triumphant, halting the Avenging Son's reclamation in its path?

a sign this series is going downhill

where were the adults? kinda feels like the crusade is commanded by children . would have liked she more character development - feels like it is not required for imperium. also I'm tired of reading sisters of silence and custodes be viewed as expendable or nerfed when convenient to kill off.

lowest of the series to date

I personally found this one in the Dawn of Fire the weakest in the series and a rather boring book overall when compared to any warhammer 40k books.

the characters are un interesting, mildly stupid and alot of nothing happens.

not many transhumans and the standard humans don't have much character.

I feel like this story tried to be different from 40k with the queens narrative and it just didn't work for me, the crying about their land really had my eyes rolling, this is the Imperium, fools.

far too many characters without enough character building to minimise the chapter to chapter whiplash.

maybe the authors style and opinions just don't vibe with me. However, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this author.

Great Story and Narrating

It was great to see that the Crusade isn't an easy operation and things can go wrong fairly easily. The characters were interesting, one or two were a little one dimensional. Apart from that, the narrating and writing were awesome.

So very boring.

Such a struggle the prose is so flowery that the author just goes in circles repeating themselves. characters I enjoyed in previous titles but this one was just dull

Not what I was expecting.

I quite enjoyed this but I feel it’s not the strongest of the books within Dawn of Fire series.

Wasn't enjoyable

They kill off characters that could have been explored more and have helped further plot.

The story has lost its way

I love Warhammer 40k novels and have read a lot of them and enjoyed every minute.

This storyline had great promise and started out so well, but it’s has become fractured and distracted.

An entire book on what is barely a blip on the radar in terms of the crusade itself?

What’s more there is little insight as to life in a feudal kingdom full of super powerful mechs capable of taking down whole squads of Space Marines.

Lastly, the characters are not likeable at all and the ending makes no sense.

Is Nick Kyme capable of writing a good book?

The answer is no. Just like his other books this book is thoroughly unenjoyable: there's near zero descriptive language, the characters act like rash stupid children, and the worst sin of all it's very very boring. Never before have I had to stop listening to an audiobook and listen to another one partway through because it pained me so much to listen to it, good job Nick.
