Publisher's Summary

THE NUMBER ONE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, JULY 2023

When frantic, dishevelled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn't know quite what to make of the situation. The co-creator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie's true identity.

Robin decides that the agency can't help with this - and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.

Robin and her business partner Cormoran Strike become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie's true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches their powers of deduction to the limits - and which threatens them in new and horrifying ways . . .

A gripping, fiendishly clever mystery, The Ink Black Heart is a true tour-de-force.

Very long winded

Took a long time to get to the point. The gaming speak was not very relatable. It took 50+ chapters for any momentum to occur. Not up to par.

Not My Favorite Book In The Series

If I wasn’t a fan of this series I would have given up after the first couple of chapters.
It was wonderful to catch up on Strike & Robyn again (although I do think their love affair or rather a lack of it is getting too drawn out, it’s a bit old now) however all the texts between the players in that online game were torturous! In the end I was fast forwarding through all of that rubbish, it was sooo irritating. Maybe in the print version it wasn’t so bad but in the audio version it was excruciating.

Can't recommend :(

I have loved the Strike series, but not this one.
I think the poor narrator deserves a medal, he does an excellent job but 80% of this book was so tedious.....all that online chat. I nearly ditched it many times. Would recommend reading it, then you can skip most of it!

Constant repeating of game

Found the short one word even multiple words relating to game difficult to keep up with...

Still a god story but disappointed

The story was ok. At times it felt forced. It was my existing love of the main characters that kept me listening. However, the stalling of the relationship between to main characters and the awkwardness that carried through 100 plus chapters grew to be pretty frustrating.

Another Strike and Ellicott Masterpiece!

I love getting caught up in the world of Cormoran and Robin. The story is another rich tapestry of characters and events - I can never predict what will happen next, or who dunnit. You really need to concentrate on all the characters being introduced though, sometimes I have a bit of trouble keeping up with who they all are.
I love Robert Glenister as narrator, I feel I can picture Cormoran from his voice.
This is a book I can listen to again.
Loved it, thank you.

A Real Challenge

I’ve read all of the Strike book series and found this book to be the most challenging to read in its entirety.
The messaging’s etc have been hard work to firstly comprehend until the last few chapters .
Strike and Robyn’s relationship has been the one thing that has made me finish this long story, and now looking back, I can say I mostly enjoyed “The Ink Black Heart”

Good book

I have loved all Robert Galbraith’s books and I loved the story here. I struggled listening to the online chatting, even though Glenister narrated perfectly as usual

Outstanding

JKR as Robert Galbraith tells us a story for the times. We are all invited to examine our own online behaviour and own it in a craftsman like way, leading to an almost unexpected explosive conclusion. Outstanding and definitely worth the length. Bravo.
