About this listen
It’s the 21st Century. Why the hell are women - 51% of the population - being treated like second class citizens?
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.
It’s the brainchild of two childless comedians, Merrill Markoe and Megan Koester. Markoe is a multi-award-winning comedy writer whose credits span television, magazines, and books. She has four Emmy Awards, one for each of her dogs. Koester has written for VICE, Jezebel and the Guardian and has one basic cable acting credit. The two writers—one a comedy veteran, the other an emerging talent—intersperse their dry wit with their own experiences of being long-suffering feminists in the modern world.

Highlights the issues in a memorable way
Really enjoyed the banter between these two women and loved the 'laundry' theme between chapters. I liked that this didn't try to cover all the issues, just enough to hone the point but not too much to swamp with how unfair our societies have been to women - most know that already.

Funny, informative and thoroughly entertaining!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s so informative but deliverers with enough humour to make the dark topics and facts easy to digest without being depressed by how messed up women have been treated!
I love the bits of conversation between chapters, it further breaks up the heavy tone of the factual bits and makes it feel a bit like a podcast.
Will be looking for more content from both of these amazing authors!

A great start to a career as a feminist!
This book offers a laugh-out-loud presentation of all the facts that make you cry. And on the historic annecdotes: That’s just how it was in those days, yes. Time for it to be different. Great to listen to when you are putting your laundry away. Enjoy!

Comprehensively devastating
The only book to make me laugh at my own oppression. Some how equal parts enlightening and depressing. Everyone should hear this book!

Loved it
Amazing facts and stories, terrific narration, funny, shocking, awful things. Every woman should listen and it would be nice if a few men were interested enough too as well. More please!
