About this listen
Disgraced detective turned private investigator, Ray Clancy, left the force with a case unsolved. Finding the killer was no longer his problem, but it still haunted him. How long would he survive the frustration of not knowing before he gave into the compulsion of his nature to solve the crime?
Server Andrew Shay existed where he didn't feel he belonged, living behind the guise of a costume. Yet it paid the bills, and he refused to complain about the little things in life. One night he returned home from work to find his roommate dead and the killer still there. Afraid and alone, his life spiraled, and he didn't know what to do. Could a detective at his core and a scared young man join forces to bring down the killer in their midst?

Lots to love about this age-gap suspense romance!
Veteran Det Ray Clancy is dealt a blow after he fails to catch a serial killer of young gay men and is unfairly dismissed from the force for corruption. While he doesn’t hate his new life as a PI, things begin look a lot better when he is contacted by Andrew Shay, a young waiter who witnessed one of the serial killings. Ray agrees to protect Andrew from the serial killer’s retribution and the two are drawn to each other. There were lots of good things about this age-gap murder-mystery romance! The authors succeeded in creating the perfect crime-drama atmosphere - the case was genuine creepy at times and the red herrings meant I didn’t guess the big reveal. Second, the characters played off each other well. Ray was a typically aggressive, grizzled, and cynically seasoned police detective. In a nice contrast, Andrew was young and naive with a lot of emotion on the surface, so a nice grumpy-sunshine dynamic played out. I did find Andrew overly mushy at times and I found the crisis and resolution of the plot a bit quick, but most readers won’t mind either of these things. The lighter voice of Kirt Grave (as Andrew) and deep voice of Tor Thom (as Ray) worked so well on the audiobook - both great choices! (the audio is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)
