About this listen
Dubbed the Housemate Homicide, it's a mystery that has baffled Australians for almost a decade. Melbourne-based journalist Olive Groves worked on the story as a junior reporter and became obsessed by the case. Now, nine years later, the missing housemate turns up dead on a remote property. Olive is once again assigned to the story; this time reluctantly paired with precocious millennial podcaster Cooper Ng. As Oli and Cooper unearth new facts about the three housemates, a dark web of secrets is uncovered. The revelations catapult Oli back to the death of the first housemate, forcing her to confront past traumas and insecurities that have risen to the surface again.
What really happened between the three housemates that night? Will Oli's relentless search for the murderer put her new family in danger? And could her suspicion that the truth lies closer to home threaten her happiness and even her sanity?
A riveting, provocative thriller from the best-selling author of The Dark Lake, Into the Night and Where the Dead Go.

"Brilliant...relentless. (Chris Hammer)
"Addictive." (Kate Mildenhall)
"Each new twist in the story skilfully balances bombshell revelations and believability, in a crime that feels achingly familiar, yet shocking at the same time. Much like Oli, I couldn’t stop until I knew the truth, too." (Jaqueline Bublitz, author of Before You Knew My Name)

Enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed this ‘standalone’ - a much less irritating protagonist than Gemma Woodstock, and always great to have Melbourne as a backdrop. Liked the ins & outs of the plot.
Good narration - though there should be a narrators’ club for those who insist on pronouncing “rifled through’ as ‘riffled through’. Definitely lost a star for that!

Great twists
Great book with many twists………
but can we please stop using the term Child Pornography or “child porn?”. Kids cannot consent to their own abuse. I know some of this book was set 19 years ago but correcting language in the 2015 stories or including a convo about language would have made this publication more responsible where child sexual exploitation CSE is concerned. Otherwise, a very well written book with likeable characters and a great complexity that draws you in.

A gritty and engrossing story
A fantastic plot structure and we'll rounded characters. Keeps you guessing like a strong thriller should and the different narrative threads come together well at the gripping end. Highly recommended.

Brilliant!
So many possibilities that you’re left racing through the book to try to work out what happened and who did what right to the very end. Narration is fabulous too. Couldn’t put this book down!

Too long
I liked the book once I'd read three quarters of it but found it too long, the plot a bit wishy washy and somewhat implausible .

Expect the unexpected
I really enjoyed this story - made my 1 hour commute seem to shorten so always left a little earlier just in case I needed extra time to extend at my destination and was fixated into the story
Worthy of a credit and it’s Australian ♥️👍♥️
