Publisher's Summary

Arnold Spivey and his mother have opened up their old farmhouse to tourists who enjoy hiking the sprawling 60,000-acre mountain wilderness area several miles down the road. A woman’s skull is discovered by a lost hiker. It puzzles the local authorities because nobody in the area has been reported missing. Where did it come from?

When Olivia Thompson disappears on a hiking trip with her new boyfriend, it’s up to her older sister, Rachel, to figure out what happened. Disturbing new facts about Olivia’s companion confirm Rachel’s fears that her sister may be in grave danger. Alone in a strange town, she discovers the only person who has stepped forward to help her may be hiding a dark secret himself. What secrets can she learn from The House on Turner Lane? Will she learn them in time to save her sister?

Critic Reviews

"Narrator Jack de Golia creates a delicious atmosphere of dread in this audiobook. The story begins when Olivia Thompson reluctantly leaves her sick mother to go hiking with her boyfriend. They end up in a small Michigan town filled with colorful townsfolk and a creepy hotel with oddball proprietors. Listeners will appreciate the vivid descriptions of the landscape and feel a tingle when the couple register at the unwelcoming hotel. Thompson's well-rendered sister, Rachel, and her dedicated neighbor become concerned when they realize Rachel has become incommunicado. When Rachel decides to track down Olivia, she meets the regulars of the local tavern, including de Golia's most engaging creation, Paul Karppenian, who extends help and friendship. The conclusion is preceded by many red herrings." (AudioFile, August 2019)
