Publisher's Summary

A cosy, enchanting story about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place. The House in the Cerulean Sea is an uplifting, heart-warming queer fantasy from TJ Klune and A New York Times, USA Today and Washington Post bestseller.

‘I loved it. It is like being wrapped up in a big gay blanket. Simply perfect’ V. E. Schwab, author of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

Linus Baker leads a quiet life. At forty, he has a tiny house with a devious cat and his beloved records for company. And at the Department in Charge of Magical Youth, he’s spent many dull years monitoring their orphanages.

Then one day, Linus is summoned by Extremely Upper Management and given a highly classified assignment. He must travel to an orphanage where six dangerous children reside – including the Antichrist.

At the orphanage, Linus must somehow determine if these children could bring about the end of days. But their guardian, the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, will do anything to protect his wards. And, as Arthur and Linus grow ever closer, Linus must choose: his duty, or his dreams . . .

Continue the adventure with the second entry in the Cerulean Chronicles, Somewhere Beyond the Sea.

‘This quirky fantasy will sweep you away’ – The New York Times

‘Likely to cause heart-swelling’ – Washington Post

‘A modern fairy tale . . . It’s a beautiful book’ – Charlaine Harris, No. 1 New York Times bestselling author

Captivating book

I enjoyed the book, it has a captivating storyline. I love the main characters but all the characters are amazing. Great narrator, loved his voice. I love the message of "acceptance and diversity" 😍😍.

Absolutely adored

This one took me a little while to get into, mostly because I found it difficult to engage with the narrator for a while. But eventually I settled into the different voices and was sucked into the story. Such a sweet one, I will be sure to read/listen again!

The narrator- wow

Such a great book. Not at all what I expected. Loved it. Not my usual genre but very thought provoking and beautiful.
The narrator was next level. The voices he used… just wow. Chauncey especially.
Top ranking for me. One of the best.

The perfect Audiobook

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
The story was beautiful
The character development was perfect
It felt like the Narrator wrote the book, his inflections were so perfect

I often find myself correcting the way a character says something in my head when listening to audiobooks to get the right emotions out of what the character says but I didn’t do that once though out this novel

I’ve been listening to some HEAVY books lately so this one left me feeling light hearted and happy
If books take you on journeys, this one was a holiday <3

The only disappointment I felt was realising the second book isn’t yet published and now I have to be patient and wait for the drop
I hope they use the same narrator I really do!

A lovely story, slightly affected by the narration

Found the narration to be rather stilted, word. By. Word. Rather than read in a flow. However characterisations with accents were done well. Story is wonderful.

A wonderful and beguiling story

I enjoyed this so much. A great mix of wry humour, observation of human folly and a gentle but alternate love story. The narration was fabulous!

Magic, messages and acceptance artfully captured!

Fell in love with Klune’s literary skills after reading ‘Bear, Otter and the Kid’ and the follow up titles! Struggled with a few subsequent books but was totally recaptured with ‘The House in the Cerulean Sea’! Definitely a reading requirement - it has spurred me to retry some earlier Klune titles. Storyline and characters captivating - listened every chance I had but didn’t want it to finish! Loved the way Linus grew throughout the story - and the way he burst the bubble constricting his life.
