About this listen
From the critically acclaimed author of Hekla’s Children comes a dark and haunting tale of our world and the next.
After her hand is amputated following a tragic accident, Rachel Cooper suffers vivid nightmares of a woman imprisoned in the trunk of a hollow tree, screaming for help. When she begins to experience phantom sensations of leaves and earth with her missing limb, Rachel is terrified she is going mad. But then another hand takes hers, and the trapped woman is pulled into our world.
This woman has no idea who she is, but Rachel can’t help but think of the mystery of Oak Mary, a female corpse found in a hollow tree and who was never identified. Three urban legends have grown up around the case; was Mary a Nazi spy, a prostitute, or a gypsy witch? Rachel is desperate to learn the truth, but darker forces are at work - for a rule has been broken, and Mary is in a world where she doesn’t belong.

Good story, shame about the language
I was tempted to return this on a few occasions because of the bad language. I personally don’t think that the language enhances the story.

Incredibly written & expertly narrated
It's not often that you come across a book like this. So deeply involved, so complex, detailed but not in a boring way. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book and I'm very happy with the culmination of the story. Highly recommend

Loved it 🙂 from New Zealand
What a great read, how imaginative and spellbinding a story. I was hooked from the first page. Well narrated, happily listen to that voice for hours again 😃

Wonderful book!
I enjoyed this so much. The narrator, Sarah Nichols, was so good, she actually reminds me of Felicity Kendall, and her voice was so good, I enjoyed listening even more because of it. The writers style reminds me a little of Simon Clark, but there are big differences as well, of course. It was really enjoyable! Recommended for sure.

Not too bad
I quite enjoyed the beginning of the story. It held huge potential, but for some reason I lost interest half way through. It's not easy to write a novel, especially a horror so I'm not going to be nasty about it. I guess it just wasn't the type of horror I enjoy.
