About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the thrilling trilogy of a town plagued by evil - and the three men and three women brought together by fate to fight it.

For Fox, Caleb, Gage and the other residents of Hawkins Hollow, the number seven portends doom - ever since, as boys, they freed a demon trapped for centuries when their blood spilled upon The Pagan Stone…

Now, as the dreaded seventh month looms before them, the men can feel the storm brewing. Already they are plagued by visions of death and destruction. But this year, they are better prepared, joined in their battle by three women who have come to The Hollow. Layla, Quinn, and Cybil are somehow connected to the demon, just as the men are connected to the force that trapped it.

Since that day at The Pagan Stone, town lawyer Fox has been able to see into others’ minds, a talent he shares with Layla. He must earn her trust, because their link will help fight the darkness that threatens to engulf the town. But Layla is having trouble coming to terms with her newfound ability - and this intimate connection to Fox. She knows that once she opens her mind, she’ll have no defenses against the desire that threatens to consume them both…

Really loved this book

The narrator really made the 3 women more believable in this book and made Quinn more enjoyable than the make narrator in the first one. Such a great storyline and made you excited for the final book!

Narrator didn't work

The story was a good continuance of the first book. I didn't like how the narrator changed from the first book. I liked the narrator from Blood Brother's. Layla was completely annoying in this book. Hope the last book ties everything together well.

Review of trilogy

I didn’t like how the trilogy began with a male narrating Blood Brothers, then changing to a female for The Hollow & back to a male again for The Pagan Stone. Also, the male sounded ridiculous doing the female voices. The female doing the male voices wasn’t the best either. I think you need more than one narrator, make for male characters & female for female characters. Story was good though.

Narrator was terrible story good

The story had the potential to be great as I love Nora’s trilogy’s especially the fantasy ones. But the narrator really spoiled it. I tuned out a lot because of her performance.
The narrator from the first one wasn’t great but this lady was really awful.

A highly entertaining 2nd installment.

A thrilling middle to the trilogy. I much preferred to performance of this installment. The women sound strong and vital just as they are written.

I do enjoy reading and listening to this trilogy.

I do enjoy re-reading and now listening to this trilogy, with its very likeable and entertaining characters and very interesting storyline.
Read quite a few times as I enjoy these characters and the story itself.
So many similarities between these characters and those in Key trilogy though.
Blonde leading heroine and the silly dog in book one plus other things that come out as one reads.
A major plot point in book two, which I really dislike and cannot agree with, which is not thought out for the long term future of any children involved, loses one star.

Major plot niggle for me in this book.
Most recently read in the box set. I do enjoy rereading this trilogy with its very likeable and entertaining characters and very interesting storyline.
Read quite a few times as I enjoy these characters and the story itself. Reviewed years ago but reviews are missing.
Really need to be read in order to appreciate the flow. I have read this singly but always read it in the box set now for better follow on.
We move onward with the story. Lots going on but I have to say this was a great second instalment. We get two more additions to the group.
Cage is one of the three boys who started this off. He has returned to town and added to the gang as well as Quinn’s friend Cybil.
Not really a romance story even though we get Layla and Fox hooking up in this book. We progress nicely with the story with more incidents with the demon.
This second book revolves around Fox and Layla as well as giving us lots more information.
I just have one BIG gripe with this book in the series.
The one thing I can never get my head around and dislike about this second story, is Fox being the sperm donor for his sister and her wife. It just freaks me out as being a truly weird thing to happen, family dynamics wise.
Yes, it’s all generous and such but the anonymity of sperm banks saves a lot of problems.
Their lifestyle choice is theirs, to drag Sage’s brother into it in a way that will cause problems for the children later on is wrong and selfish.
How will this work out at family gatherings? Sage and Paula’s baby will be too closely related to Fox and Layla’s. Will they be told they are half-siblings, not cousins?
This facet alone is a big bump in the whole story, as it is never mentioned again in any context through to the end. Even in book three at a certain point.
Feels like it was something the author thought up on the fly and threw in with no further thought.
Layla takes it with not one iota of questioning, selfishness or discussion about long term expectations. He doesn’t even really talk it out with Cal and Gage.
I suppose it must be like Fox being a single dad, but human nature being what it is, there is no way he won’t look at Sage’s child and think, that is my son/daughter. His first child will not be with his love. As you can tell this part of the story really annoys me.
It has been a few years since I last read these books and my original review included this point too.

Narrator was terrible

I love Nora Roberts and I love every book I buy but this is the first time I have ever wanted a book to end so that I could move onto book 3 just because of the narrator's way of reading! I really enjoyed the first narrator but holy heck listening to book 2 is like pulling teeth.
