About this listen

Gray: There are some things I excel at: Exercising rigid control over every aspect of my life. Making sensible decisions at every turn. Being organized, predictable, and responsible.

In short, I'm boring as hell and in desperate need of a change. Luckily I have my best friend by my side and a newly written to-do list to guide my way through the murky waters of finding happiness. It's all very promising at first, but as weeks pass, I start to realize that the best part of my day has always been Kai. And when I see him out on a date with some guy? Let's just say I'm definitely not happy about it.

Kai: I'm back in Boston after ten years of traveling, and I've fulfilled all my goals: See the world. Figure out what to do with my life. Get over my impossible crush on Gray. Check, check, and check.

Life's good until I accidentally find Gray's happy list, which contains some very interesting things that friends never ever do with each other. And as weeks pass, it becomes clear those not-so-innocent parts are the ones Gray is determined to explore with me. I can't resist him, and pretty soon I'm forced to admit that I'm not as done with my crush as I thought I was . . .

Contains mature themes.

Sweet friends-to-lovers / bi-awakening romance!

Raised by his strait-laced brother, Grayson is unhappy with his job as a corporate lawyer and extremely unhappy about the marriage proposal from his (now ex-) girlfriend of two years. The only bright spot is that his best friend, Kai, has returned to Boston and is happy to share Gray’s apartment. Kai is much more free-spirited than Gray and during a game of “Never have I ever …”, Gray realises he’s lived a pretty boring, unhappy life. In response, Gray creates ‘The Happy List’, a secret list of life experiences he’d like to try. Kai has always fought his unrequited feelings for Gray but when he comes across Gray’s list, he can’t help trying to make some of them happen and the two grow close.

I could have done without the failure to communicate hurdle but, overall, I really enjoyed this friends-to-lovers / bisexual awakening romance! There were no nasty people here—I was prepared to dislike Gray’s ex-girlfriend and brother, but I was pleasantly surprised by both. I loved watching Gray start to live life and fall hard for Kai. I could totally understand Kai’s reluctance to let himself fall for Gray in case it ruined their long friendship and I enjoyed their blossoming slow-burn-to-sizzling romance. 🎧 Audio royalty Kirt Graves (as Gray) and Joel Leslie (as Kai) both did a great job (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!

This was such fun to listen to. Kai and Grey were so adorable and clueless. The story was really well constructed with the great banter and chemistry between them and the narrators did a fantastic job. Low angst and enjoyable.

Unexpectedly really good

Throughly enjoyed this. Was an accidental read because it’s on Audible Plus atm but I have read his author before so thought, why not. It was sweet and funny and just all round a good listen.
