About this listen

Sex. Drones. Rock and roll.

Aidan Headly never wanted to be the man giving orders. That's fine with the Democratic State Force base he's been assigned to command: they don't like to take orders. Nicknamed the Wildcards, they used to be the most effective base against the seven Corporations owning the former United States in a war that has lasted over half a century. Now the Wildcards are known for creative insubordination, chaos, and commanders begging to be reassigned.

Aidan is their last chance. If he can pull off his assignment as Commander and yank his ragtag crew of dreamers and fighters together, maybe they can get back to doing what they came to do: fighting for a country worth living in.

Life's a bitch. She deals off the bottom of the deck. But you play the hands you're given.

Original and excellent

It's been a long time since I've come along something this original and so well written. And I've NEVER read anything that so thoroughly delved into incredibly sensitive issues in a way that was both raw, honest, clear and compassionate. An amazing job all around.
This would have been a good dystopian story even without the love between the MCs, (great - almost terrifying - world building!) but the beautiful connection between them made it something really special.

So happy there are more books in the series!

Compelling dystopian futuristic romance!

It’s 2125, seven mega-corporations (the Corps) have seized control of America and dissolved the Union. The Democratic State Force has been at war with the Corps for over 50 years. Aidan Headly reluctantly assumes command of the Wildcards base after a period of instability and screwups. He aims to keep his FTM status secret until he falls for one of the crew. I’m not usually a fan of dystopian futures, but I loved this sci-fi romance - the world building was interesting and extensive but not overwhelming. OE Tearmann has painted a disturbing and believable future with well-drawn MCs and a compelling plot. I especially loved the quiet strength of Aidan’s leadership pitted against his hidden fragility - the romantic scenes were full of tenderness and vulnerability. Kirt Graves narrates the audio deftly and compassionately as only he can. Can’t wait for the other audios in this series!

i thought this was an interesting read. compelling context that I was eager to read more about. the ending snuck up on me as I was listening to the audio book. I actually expected something terrible to happen, not the book to end. nothing major on a large scale really happens in this instalment but I kinda of didn't mind that. will be interesting to find out what happens next (if I decide to read book 2).
