The Hamster's Wheel is a short story of a young single mother's struggle to overcome opiate addiction. She is arrested for a DUI and has the good fortune to be placed in a caring rehab setting with a competent community health nurse assigned to her care. The up and down struggles she experiences and the effects on her two young children give the story a family focus.
