About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Celehar's life as the Witness for the Dead of Amalo grows less isolated as his circle of friends grows larger. He has been given an apprentice to teach, and he has stumbled over a scandal of the city—the foundling girls. Orphans with no family to claim them and no funds to buy an apprenticeship. Foundling boys go to the Prelacies; foundling girls are sold into service, or worse. At once touching and shattering, Celehar's witnessing for one of these girls will lead him into the depths of his own losses. The love of his friends will lead him out again.

Appealing characters and story, great narration
wonderful story and narration. Part of a series, and best read after The Witness for the Dead. The main character is very appealing, being a courageous prelate who witnesses for the dead, meaning that he is often acting as a detective. The series is set in an alternative world but the focus is not on the fantasy elements, but on plot and character. A clever genre mashup.

An apprentice!
More about our favourite Prelate of Ulis and a Witness for the Dead. Thara Celehar - now he has an apprentice which is fabulous. Yet, we are left wondering about what will become of him - we are left wanting more! Good writing and such a great narrator - he breathes life into Thara and all the characters. I still struggle with listening to the books only because of the names /titles used - it can get confusing so probably better to read the book and then listen.
