About this listen

From Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the authors of the top ten bestseller The Wife Between Us, comes The Golden Couple–a compelling psychological thriller that will keep you guessing to the very end.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple, until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things – both because she loves her husband, and for the sake of their eight-year old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist, who lost her licence due to controversial methods.

If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in ten sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. She helps people overcome everything, from anxiety to domineering parents. Her successes almost help her absorb the emptiness she feels since her husband’s death.

When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door, all three are immediately set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.

Critic Reviews

The Golden Couple is propulsive and thrilling. It grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go. A page turner that will keep you guessing until the very end’ - Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of Daisy Jones and the Six and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Kept me guessing

I couldn’t stop listening as there were breadcrumbs of clues dropped throughout the book that had me guessing what would happen next right up until the very end.
Cleverly written - I enjoyed the way the story was built and told through the therapy sessions attended by the leading characters over the course of the book.

Loved this!

Quite a few books I’ve listened to lately haven’t kept me on the hook the same way as this one. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Worth listening good twists toward the end

Pretty good audible overall a few slow bits in the first half, so I stopped listening for a while, then returned for the second half. got better towards the end & were a few twists I didn’t see coming, so overall a good listen with enjoyable narration

Hooked throughout

Loved this book all the way through. Although I picked up the clues in regards to who was the villain in the story half way along there were still plenty of surprises and interesting characters

Engaging story with enough twists to keep me happy

This story is up to the quality I expect from these two authors .
Having enjoyed their other books as well.
I feel that Avery deserves another book she was such an interesting character that we could learn so much more about if the authors decided to extend her story .
Great read , I liked the narrator as well.

Gripping and entertaining

I wasn't deterred by the negative reviews I'd read, and very glad for it.
I enjoyed the way the story developed and the small clues revealed as it progressed. There is enough mystery and intrigue to keep you from really knowing (vs simply thinking you know) who the villain is until it all unfolds to it's big-bang conclusion.
Avery is a strong character, decisive and authoritative, in contrast to the feeble and indecisive Marissa. I found the polarity of the two quite satisfying where I'd be annoyed or put off by Marissa's chapters, I would be relieved when Avery's chapters started.
Excellent narration also.

Slow burn but interesting

This book took me quite a long time to get into and finish as it was a very slow start. I found the narrator pretending to be the voices of different men quite jarring and ruined the flow of the story for me.

Snoozefest

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed by this book. I absolutely adored the authors' previous books and I looked very much forward to this new story. I found the book boring, nothing really happens, the twists were quite straightforward. By chapter 21 I was over it and forced myself to finish it. I really could not care less about what happened. Narration ok but had to set the speed to 0.95x. I would highly recommend the authors' other books but not this one.
