About this listen

Leo Tolstoy, best known for the novels Anna Karenina and War and Peace, also wrote short stories that expound on Christianity. The Godson is a moving parable about a man finding a way to understand himself, the events around him, and his purpose in life. The story is about a son who was born to a poor peasant who rejoiced and went to a neighbour to ask him to become godfather to the boy. The neighbour refused, as he did not want to be godfather to a poor man’s son. So the peasant went to another neighbour, and he, too, refused. He walked from house to house but could find no one who would be godfather to his son, so he set out to another village....

The themes of The Godson include atonement, obedience, faith, and the spiritual journey of a Christian.
