About this listen
Eliza Miller grew up in Australia as the only daughter of a troubled young mother, but with the constant support of two watchful godmothers, Olivia and Maxie. Despite her tricky childhood, she always felt loved and secure. Until, just before her eighteenth birthday, a tragic event changed her life.
Thirteen years on, Eliza is deliberately living as safely as possible, avoiding close relationships and devoting herself to her job. Out of the blue, an enticing invitation from one of her godmothers prompts a leap into the unknown.
Within a fortnight, Eliza finds herself in the middle of a complicated family in Edinburgh. There's no such thing as an ordinary day any more. Yet, amidst the chaos, Eliza begins to blossom. She finds herself not only hopeful about the future, but ready to explore her past, including the biggest mystery of all - who is her father?
Set in Australia, Scotland, Ireland and England, THE GODMOTHERS is a great big hug of a book that will fill your heart to bursting. It is a moving and perceptive story about love, lies, hope and sorrow, about the families we are born into and the families we make for ourselves.©2020 Monica McInerney (P)2020 Penguin Random House Australia

accents
I loved the story, but I don't understand the need for the accents as they were all Australian, ok two moved to Scotland & England as young adults & from my own experience would not have lost their accents. the attempt at the Scottish accent was absolutely awful..spoiled it for me.

Twists and turns
Wonderful story. The title tickled me as I have 3 childhood friends and each of them are a godmother to each of my 3 children. Each of these relationships are special just as Olivia’s and Maxi’s is to Eliza. Thank you

great engaging story
simple but great character development. The Scottish accent was a bit mixed up at times as different narrators had different accents so I grew more attached to the younger aussie voice. easy listening and gulped it down in a few days !

Great story a must listen
I really loved this book. The telling of the story and the way it unfolded made it very difficult to put down. Slightly disappointing Scottish and Irish accents but the reading of the characters helps to go with them. Thoroughly recommended.

Great read
Really enjoyed this book. The character development was good. As usual, Monica spends a lot of time including conversations that the book could live without but if you just go with the flow, it’s fine. I enjoyed the story and the narration was good. I wasn’t sure why Olivia had such a bad Scottish accent but if you didn’t listen to it too closely, it was fine. I loved Sullivan - he was a lovely addition to the story.
If you like Monica’s other books, you’ll enjoy this one. 👍
