Publisher's Summary

Not only is the Ghost Platoon the only permanently configured platoon in the Tasmanian SFG, it only has ten men assigned, never has an assigned objective, and is commanded by a woman whose call sign is Fox.

While most in the Tasmanian SFG hunt the enemy like a pack of wolves, the Ghost Platoon is frequently behind enemy lines, like foxhounds, searching for ways to be a general pain in the enemy’s ass.

Book 4, 100% worth the wait

Loved it. I was curious to see what might evolve in book 4 and wasn’t disappointed for one second. The conditions of a female in a previously all male elite special forces unit oriented around her strategic approach, rational thought processes and pragmatic courses of action continue to be realistic, engaging and entertaining.

The relationships between characters are well balanced in the context of a group of humans with the intelligence to recognise someone with an operating orientation that’s outside their known paradigms, and the foresight to test, evaluate and then empower that person to ‘do their thing’ and even more than that - allow the nuances of the expanded and novel paradigm to inspire changes in the functioning of the group as a whole.

I love the shit out of the way that the FMC holds space for her leadership role. She is always so many steps ahead of their thinking that she bypasses inane argument and unhelpful ego - and even more than that, does it with a sly sense of knowing humour thus strengthening the trust, respect and bond with, and between her team.

It’s an absolute pleasure to encounter the depiction of an intelligence capable of making sense of complex conditions - both amidst the human dynamics of her team, superior-colleagues and the theatres of engagement presented to the Tasmanians. I also appreciate being exposed to an example of a refreshingly balanced integration and use of emotionality, rational pragmatism and embodied intelligence. The use of all these facets of our embodied intelligence has been cultivated in Eastern philosophies, worldviews and embodiment practices - be they martial arts, yoga or philosophical thinking, and teachings in their application to both everyday life and challenging circumstances.

Note of personal bias and context:
I find myself screaming with frustration inside with all the books I read that involve overly emotional, unintelligent and plain stupid characters who don’t think, act impulsively and are ruled by issues (like trust, insecurity/inadequacey, timidity, overconfidence) that whilst endemic to the human condition and wholly relatable, are able to be understood, transcended and harnessed in enlightening and empowering ways (eg. Meditation, yoga, martial arts). My perspective is comes from my studies of complex systems and processes, learning how inspire, facilitate and co-create meaningful change with our embodied intelligence and my engagement with eastern thinking and practices. It’s rare I find opportunities to see things I’ve lived, learned, teach, trial and hope for brought to life - particularly as a book/stories I can allow myself to indulge and escape into. I’ve listened to the first 3 books multiple times when I want to book my motivation, realign myself and get inspired.

I so so so love Emily’s reading of these characters. It’s masterful, craftful and I just love the s*#t out of her voice it’s calming and soothing to my auditory sensibilities (I’ve discovered we all can/can’t take some reader’s voices 🤷🏼‍♀️). I thinks she kills it with the range/variety of male and female voices she delivers.

So my hat is off to author and narrator for all the good things their fine work adds to my life. HappyThankyouMorePlease (no pressure tho 😁)
