About this listen
Thirty-eight year old Cassandra is lost, alone, and grieving. Her much loved grandmother, Nell, has just died and Cassandra, her life already shaken by a tragic accident 10 years ago, feels like she has lost everything known and dear to her.
But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra's life upside down and ends up challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. Inheriting a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace Rutherford - the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early 20th century - as well as a cliff-top cottage on the other side of the world, Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell, on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past; little knowing that in the process, she will also discover a new life for herself.

Brilliant.
Whilst I agree the accents weren’t the best I love Caroline Lee’s reads. They are my favourite. The book itself was brilliant and the story and descriptions rich and beautiful.

A magical and brilliant read!
An absolute delight, an incredible story that transports you through time back and forward between 1900 and 2005. Beautifully narrated, this story about the past, the future and family will keep you engrossed the entire time. There are also gems inside -magical fairytales that are deliciously dark and beautify written. I didn't want it to end.

intriguing, lovely story
Kate Morton is skilled in intertwining numerous storylines, dropping hints and possibilities along the way, teasing the story along and keeping the reader guessing where the plot is heading. I really enjoyed this as I had The Secret Keeper before.

I enjoyed this book so much!
Loved the stories intertwined from beginning to end. I could imagine the sketches and waited with anticipation for the fairy tales to be read.
The narrator is fantastic and I even liked the little bit of music between chapters.

Loved this so much
I'm fairly new to Kate Morton, this being only my second read, but my gosh I'm hooked. I absolutely adored the dual storyline, I loved the characters and the narration was brilliant. This is one of those stories that makes it hard for me to pick something new to listen to as I feel it just won't compare!
