About this listen
Jones is determined to find out what caused the unexpected death of her father while they were exploring ancient ruins in the Himalayas. Along with a stack of books and coded journals, he's left her with the promise she'll travel back to England for the first time since childhood to try being the lady she's never been.
Edie and her brother are leaving soon on a journey to the Himalayas to document and collect plants for the new Kew Gardens when she befriends Miss Jones in London. She's never left England before and is delighted to learn the lady will be returning to the mountains she calls home at the same time they are planning their travels. When they meet again in Srinagar, Edie is surprised to find that, out here, the Miss Jones of the London salons is "just Jones" the explorer, clad in breeches and boots and unconcerned with the proprieties Edie has been brought up to respect.
The nonbinary explorer and the determined botanist make the long journey over the high mountain passes to Little Tibet, collecting flowers and exploring ruins on the way. Will Jones discover the root of the mysterious deaths of her parents? Will she confide in Edie and allow her to help in the quest? The trip is fraught with perils for both of them, not least those of the heart.

A lovely gentile historical sapphic romance!
Although the audiobook says this is book 3, it’s actually a standalone story set much earlier than the first two Lost In Time books. Jones has grown up in far-flung places like Tibet and she shuns most social conventions placed on women. When she visits London, she meets Edie and her brother and the three of them team up in the Himalayas - Jones wants to find out more about father’s death, while the others seek new botanical species. While the first two books focused far more on the borderland magic with the romance playing a minor role, Flowers In Time focusses on the growing friendship of the masculine Jones and the feminine Edie with the fantasy theme a distant second. I liked the gentile romance against the backdrop of the Himalayas and felt it almost didn’t need the fantasy element. I loved the two main characters, especially the exploration of Jones’ gender identity. Zoe Brookes provided a well-paced and soothing narrative style, although I had to get used to hearing her swallow - she must have a very sensitive microphone.

Is this a prequel?
This book is mis labelled as book 3 in the series, which is incorrect. I have listened to the 3 books in the series already .This is obviously a prequel or a stand-alone so should be corrected by whoever is marketing it asap.
It really is an interesting story which I enjoyed very much.
As with another reviewer, I found the narrator's audible swallowing etc very off-putting even though she did a brilliant job, so perhaps a less sensitive mic would help?
