About this listen

Olivia Carver's life in Lake Cabot, New York, is simple. That's how she likes it, even if she can't stop the town she loves from being overrun by wealthy tourists each summer. When she's not working at her family's paddleboard shop or spending time with her lovable but infuriating brothers, she puts her energy into writing professionally, a dream that has yet to materialize.

Valerie Maycomb used to summer in Lake Cabot with her family when she was younger, until school and planning for her future became the driving forces in her existence. For the first time in years, following her college graduation, she's spending a few months in the small, lakeside town she loved as a child. All she wants is a little time to decompress before law school in the fall and maybe even strike up the courage to talk to a woman.

A chance meeting at the lake opens up the possibility of a summer romance, with the explicit understanding that it can't become something more. Olivia's not built for falling in love, and Val needs to keep her eye on the prize of a successful career. But neither of them can deny the attraction, and summer quickly takes on a life of its own.

Contains mature themes.

No Flaws Here

Monica McCallen has quickly become my favourite author in a very short amount of time. Her characters are rich and real. The tales she weaves just leaves me filled with hope that maybe I won't be alone forever!

And Lori, as always, brought Val and Olivia to life unlike anyone else ever could have.

Beautiful story of love and humanity

I was drawn easily into the world of these wonderfully crafted and deep characters, and the dreamy town in which their journey unravelled. I enjoyed every bit.

I laughed! I cried! I blushed!

This book and narration was perfect! I had listened to “Good Spin” by the same author and narrator and so immediately searched for more and found this book - I am so glad that I did!

The 🔥 scenes had me blushing profusely!

The story was sweet and I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion!

This is one book I will re-read/listen to over and over!

Only one issue…

This story is wonderfully written and gives you everything you want from a sapphic story. The ONLY problem I have is the narrator, specially when she’s voicing Val in the more intimate moments. I get that the character is nervous and not used to voicing what she wants but in those moments the character sounds like a 5 year girl who’s been asked if she’s hungry just after having a massive temper tantrum. Quiet and trying not to cry. It drove me nuts (and not in a good way)!

Highly recommended

What a heartwarming story! I loved the way the writer put us inside this amazing cosy little town with the two most cute characters ever.

The narration is brilliant!
