About this listen
In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman's Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other's company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story. Soon, though, the men find themselves drawn into a tale as deep and old as the Reservoir. It's a tale of dark pacts, of long-buried secrets, and of a mysterious figure known as Der Fisher: the Fisherman. It will bring Abe and Dan face to face with all that they have lost, and with the price they must pay to regain it.

Pretty good, narrators voice irked me
I was excited to listen to this after reading reviews of the book. Maybe it’s just not my style of horror, but it didn’t really grip me. I wasn’t invested after the massive backstory divergence, and thought the momentum was lost. The narrator’s voice quavered quite a bit and that was a bit of a distraction.

Lost in the weeds
Not enough story for two books, too much story for one.
Spending half the book telling a story within story killed the momentum, the story within the story was so long by the time you get back to the original story it feels like you needed to be reintroduced to the characters.
The SWS was too long for a flashback so the story didn’t feel fleshed out, it would be great if it was its own book, having room to become better acquainted with the characters, it just felt shoehorned in.

Recommended for horror lovers
A well written and original book of the cosmic and fantasy horror genre. The book is like two stories in one with the modern story interspersed through a more ancient tale and both work well together.
