About this listen

The Davis family was settling in for the night. It was a typical evening in their quiet suburban home Emma Davis hummed softly as she washed the last of the dinner plates while her husband, Mark, flipped through the channels on the television, searching for something worth watching. Their eight-year-old son, Jacob, lay sprawled on the living room rug, lost in a world of action figures, while their teenage daughter, Lily, scrolled through her phone, barely acknowledging the rest of the family.

Outside, the wind whispered through the trees, rustling the leaves in the darkness. The clock on the wall chimed nine, and Emma called, “Jacob, time for bed.” Then came the knock.

It wasn’t a typical knock no hurried tapping from a neighbor, no impatient pounding from a delivery driver. It was slow. Deliberate. Three distinct raps.

Knock. Knock. Knock.
