About this listen
The Fields of Death is the epic final novel in Simon Scarrow's best-selling Wellington and Napoleon Quartet. Essential listening for fans of Bernard Cornwell.
1809. Viscount Wellington and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte have made their mark as military commanders. Lifelong enemies, they both believe their armies are strong enough to destroy any rival. But in war victory can never be certain.
While Wellington's success continues in Spain, Napoleon feels the sting of failure. Yet despite a disastrous Russian campaign and humiliating defeat at Leipzig, he persists in fighting on.
With Napoleon's power waning, the newly titled Duke of Wellington is perfectly placed to crush the tyrant. But his enemy refuses to surrender, and so the two giants must face a final reckoning on the bloody battlefield of Waterloo....

not too bad
gave the story a 4 star because for some stupid reason I was hoping Sharpe would make an appearance, yes, a Richard was mentioned, but he was a Major. But I still enjoyed the story even though I knew how it would end.

Fantastic Ending.
The fourth book completed the saga brilliantly. not concentrating too much on Waterloo which would have been easy to do. beautifully written and well read.

tedious but i couldn't stop
i listened to all 4 books within a few weeks and all i can say is thank the goddess that Jonathon Keeble wss brilliant as narrator otherwise i wouldn't have bothered.
it was a long and drawn out series....it had me bored to tears...but i just couldn't stop listening.
i came to 4 conclusions by the end...Napoleon was an brilliant arsehole....Arthur was a prick for marrying Kitty...Kitty was stupid for wasting her life waiting for Arthur...and I'm in love with Arthur 😏

Brilliantly written and performed.
A brilliantly written and detailed series accounting an epic part of history from the perspective of the two greatest generals of the time.
From childhood through to the ultimate confrontation and conclusion. Not word is wasted nor an important detail missed in this fast paced epic series that puts the reader/listener into the minds and mindsets of these two men that etched in stone, their names into the historical record.
Jonathan Keeble’s delivery is impeccable throughout, he is a true master of vocal characterisations and accents as well of pace and tone.
A must read epic series.

Blatant British propaganda
I am amazed at the levels of bias displayed by Scarrow towards Napoleon in this pile of rubbish, presenting Wellington as some fairytale hero and Napoleon as some bloodthirsty monster is an absolute affront specially when the writer is British, this seems more like a Goebelian facist propaganda piece than a history novel.....
