Publisher's Summary

The secrets of the tower will finally be revealed in the remarkable conclusion to the highly acclaimed Books of Babel series.

As Marat's siege engine bores through the Tower, Senlin can do nothing but observe the mayhem from inside the belly of the beast. Edith and her crew are forced to face Marat on unequal footing, with Senlin caught in the crossfire, while Adam attempts to unravel the mystery of his fame inside the crowning ringdom. And when the Brick Layer's true ambition is revealed, neither the Tower nor its inhabitants will ever be the same again.

Critic Reviews

"Josiah Bancroft is a magician. His books are that rare alchemy: gracefully written, deliriously imaginative, action-packed, warm, witty and thought-provoking." (Madeline Miller, author of Circe)

"The Books of Babel are something you hope to see perhaps once a decade - future classics, which may be remembered long after the series concludes." (LA Times)

Such a wonderful convincing magical world

the authors humour and imagination never weavered throughout the whole series .You never could guess the outcomes .I loved them all .the earlier ones slightly more than this last one, but all in all a really clever and softly funny book .The narrator was excellent too .

Excellent and elliptical ending

An exciting finale. New ringdoms, new technologies and strange happenings. It leaves all our characters with open, uncertain yet hopeful futures. I really wish one day there may be future books in this world to hear of the later years of the tower and beyond. Thanks Josiah for such a fascinating, tender and bizarre series.

Entertaining but not as good as the previous books

For me this last book feels rushed, disjointed and hurried to a shallow over the top utopian ending.

It is such a shame, because while the story just feels off in this last book, the authors brilliant talent for storytelling remains utterly entertaining and witty to the end. It kinda reminds me of the GoT TV series and its last season.

Spoiler warning regarding some examples ahead why I feel this way about this book.

The whole Adam story arc feels rather weak. His unique character transformed suddenly and within just days into a sort-of Senlin clone.

The traverse of the tower from bottom to top suddenly a matter of a couple days which seems crazy especially for the Hodking construct. The tower feels much smaller and deminshed in this book.

The escalation from steampunk to spacefaring SciFi feels as disjointed as the throwing in of timetraveling visions.

Ringdoms that amounted in privious books to small nations are now greatly neutered and mere footnotes with no real power.

Excellent

I think I mentioned this in previous reviews on the earlier books but I really love the narrator, he does an excellent job of distinguishing the characters voices.
This was probably my favourite book of the series, so sad it is at an end, so glad I took a listen!
Hope to see more works from Josiah Bancroft soon so I don't feel so sad about this set wrapping up.

That was a long time

3 books
A lot of hours. I just wanted it to end after investing so much time in it. Books went down progressively after the first.
It’s open for another book but I will not be listening.
