About this listen

"I was in free fall the moment we met, and I just keep falling."

Small-town police officer Silas Sloane knows every resident of O'Leary, New York. He's earned the love and respect of its citizens, though living under the small-town microscope grates on him. But though he's good at his job, there's one thing he's not good at: commitments...until Everett.

Widower Everett Maior, O'Leary's newest citizen, came to the small town kicking and screaming. He never wanted to become primary caretaker for his grandfather and has no interest in living the provincial life. Snarky and superstitious, he's proficient at keeping people at a distance...until he lays eyes on Silas.

Strange disappearances are plaguing O'Leary, though, even as Silas and Everett find their growing attraction undeniable. Can they find their way to a future together, even as ghosts from the past threaten to tear them apart?

Enjoyable small-town romance!

Everett Maior gets a rude welcome to the small town of O’Leary when he crashes his car to avoid something. Silas Sloane, the police officer who finds him, doesn’t seem impressed at first but the two develop feelings for each other. Unfortunately, Everett is still grieving the loss of his husband and Silas isn’t big on commitment so the course of true love doesn’t run smoothly. If you want a large supportive cast of small-town characters with a sweet vibe, a protracted love story with some relationship angst, and a mystery with a twist at the end, this is for you. I loved the effortless writing, the explorations of loss and grief, and the people - I’ll enjoy spending time with them all over the five books and six+ novellas. Audio dream team Alexander Cendese (as Everett) and Iggy Toma (as Silas) are always brilliant and they are great here! (Currently on the Audible Plus catalogue)

Rushed narration

I actually tried to slow down the sections of Alexander cendese read. Everything was rushed, the lines ran together, I wasn’t entirely certain which character was speaking at times. Great book, fantastic characters, Iggy Toma read with passion and was excellent, strong pass on Cendese though.

Couldn’t finish

Both the narrators and the story made this book impossible to finish. Long and slow.

Surprisingly good

At first I wasn’t sure, but from chapter one I was hooked! It’s very real to life story of love lost, tragedy and finding one’s place again. Thoroughly enjoyed to the very last bonus chapter.

Love and grief

A clever and poignant effort from May Archer. The journey to love again after the untimely death of a husband is well documented here. Si and Ev will captivate you with their gentle anxious burgeoning romance. Warmly helped along by Ev’s rambunctious but loving grandfather. Having lost a husband at the same age as Ev I can relate and I did shed a few tears through the touching story.

Welcome to O’Leary

An enjoyable initiation into the town of O’Leary. While I know this book was about Ev & Silas it was also about the townsfolk who blended into the storyline easily and brought lots of fun to it. I could imagine some of the interesting to & fro commentary happening in a small town. Looking forward to listening to the next book in series.
