Publisher's Summary

Everyone in the kingdom talked about the King-in-waiting, Roland's elder son, Peter. And one man thought and planned and brooded on something else: how to make sure that Roland's younger son, Thomas, should be crowned King instead. The King is dead, murdered by an unusual poison. While evidence is gathered, and the land of Delain mourns, Flagg, the King's magician, unscrupulous, greedy and powerful, plots.

Soon the King's elder son, Peter, is imprisoned in the needle, the top of a high tower, for his father's murder. And Thomas inherits the throne. Only Peter knows the truth of his innocence, and the true evil that is Flagg. Only Peter can save Delain from the horror the magician has in store. He has a plan, but it is rife with danger. And if he fails, he won't get a second chance….

A captivating tale of heroic adventure, of dragons and princes, of mysterious mice and men from the pen of the master storyteller.

The lighter side of King

I was keen to listen to this book to find more about Flagg. The story does give us some background information on the character but nothing that really interacts with other King stories, except for the fact Flagg can move between worlds. The story overall was alright although it has a feel to it that it may have been written for a young adult audience as it is not as dark as many of his better novels.

Great performance by Bronson. Good story by King.

Enjoyed this audio book greatly. Nice world and character building for the dark tower series.

Bronson Pinchot is phenomenal

Not bad for an earlier story of Kings, can tell how he has mastered and fined tuned his craft since. A great introduction to one of his most amazing recurring characters. Blronson Pinchot the narrator completely immerses you in the world and is absolutely outstanding on this 👌👌👌

Great story

Really enjoyed the narration overall, but I hated the voice used for the villan. I found it very jarring and distracting.

Fairytale style

The narrator voice, how it's written and performed, is the main draw of the book. It's not a complicated story, but it has lovely quirks and well-drawn characters. Not much like King's other works, but a pleasant read for fans of fairytales, high fantasy and nice parents.

Fabulous

Great story and so well told by Bronson Pinchot. His renditions of Flag are worth the listen.
