Dr. Ross W. Greene
About this listen
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting.
The Explosive Child is the highly acclaimed, lifechanging parenting guide in which Dr. Greene first delineated the Collaborative Problem Solving approach. Dr. Greene explains why kids exhibit challenging behaviors, why traditional behavior management strategies may not be effective for many kids, and how to use Plan B to solve problems collaboratively and teach your child the skills he or she is lacking.
As the model has evolved over the years, so has The Explosive Child, and it is available here in an abridged and updated fourth edition narrated by Dr. Greene.
Throughout this compassionate, insightful, and practical book, Dr. Greene provides a new conceptual framework for understanding their difficulties. He explains why traditional parenting and treatment often don't work with these children, and he describes what to do instead. Instead of relying on rewarding and punishing, Dr. Greene's Collaborative Problem Solving model promotes working with explosive children to solve the problems that precipitate explosive episodes, and teaching these kids the skills they lack.

Simply Epic!
It's hard enough having an explosive child, being uncertain of what they need, feeling confused as to which parenting style is most effective and then being judged for it anyway.
What an insightful - yet totally common sense - way of understanding and connecting with your child (who is struggling) and therefore, mixing the right ingredients to bake a healthy family dynamic.

overall good info
I really liked the narration, it felt like a conversation, not a reading, I guess that's what it is like when you read your own content. The material was good, I liked the phrase kids do well if they can, and also that fair doesn't always mean equal, I'll have to remind my kids of that one specifically.
I see how much my daughter lacks the skills of self regulation and problem solving... I wish there had been more solution examples, mostly because I often feel at a loss for solutions myself, that aren't punishments. perfect example is around lying. my kids were"caught" in a lie today, and it's not the first time, not the last time, but I want it to be the last time. I don't know how to stop it and I suspect they won't have any ideas on how to bring lasting change either...

Easy listening, great advice for any child (or parent)
I found the recording easy to listen to, finished it in 2-3 days.
There were many practical/common examples which I could relate to or adapt to for myself and my soon to be 4 and soon to be 6 year olds (the latter showing symptoms on mild ASD, undiagnosed as yet).
I think the recommendation here is truly applicable (and should be used) for all children and not just explosive ones.
Now, to convert this knowledge into practice! Thanks Dr Greene.

wow
just finished listening to this book in one day (which doesn't sound that impressive but with these kids at home nothing is easy!). I'm googling Ross Greene right Noe to see what else I can learn from him. this is a book I think I'll listen to multiple times, I'm optimistic about his approaches.
