Publisher's Summary

The Ex Hex is a spellbinding rom-com with a twist, think Practical Magic in Gilmore Girls' Stars Hollow.

New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling, casts a spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches and hexes gone wrong.

You broke my heart, Rhys Penhallow. And we curse you. You and your whole stupid, hot line.

Vivienne Jones handled the biggest break-up of her life the way that any witch would: vodka, bubble baths and a curse on her ex.

That was nine years ago. Now Rhys Penhallow, descendant of the town's founders, breaker of hearts and still irritatingly gorgeous, is back. Rhys has returned to the quaint town of Graves Glen to recharge the ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival. But when his every move results in calamity, Vivi realises that hexing her ex might not have been so harmless after all....

As the curse starts to affect the magic of the town, resulting in murderous wind-up toys, an outraged ghost and a surprisingly talkative cat, Vivi and Rhys must put their personal feelings aside and work together to break the curse and save not just the town, but also Rhys' life.

Cute Halloween read to get you through the spooky season.
Would have loved a little epilogue into there future but over all a fun, quick witchy story 🧙🔮🪄

A lovely October read

This was a nice little October read - perfect for Halloween!

I did find the narration a bit odd the male character is Welsh and there wasn’t an attempt to make him sound Welsh at all he was basically American.

Appalling narration

I couldn’t finish this listen as the narration was so poor, They didn’t attempt different voices or accents. So characterisation and world building was undermined from the start. Please cast voice actors who commit to roles and do justice to the story.

Disappointing fluff, awful narration

DNF-ing at about 30%. I'd been looking forward to reading this book for quite some time, but the chemistry was unconvincing and often cringey, and the book didn't know if it wanted to be smut or a cute rom-com.

On top of that, the Audible narrator is AWFUL - their intonation and meter is very odd and frequently confusing, running together descriptions and dialogue in a way that had me hitting rewind to figure out what on earth was going on. No attempt at voice differentiation either, which added to the confusion. I might have persisted if I'd bought the book, but the narration made this unfinishable.

Not a fan of the narration

I didn’t like the narrator’s voice and found it detracted from the story. I listened to it at 1.2x speed which made it a little better, but if I hadn’t used a credit for this one, it would be a DNF.
