About this listen

The headline could write itself: Matthew Hawkins, star defensive end, comes out of retirement to play for the Washington Wolves. Which is perfectly fine by Ava Baker - it makes her job as publicist for the team easier.

There are only two problems. This particular football player was her first crush. The bigger problem: Matthew Hawkins was once engaged to her older sister.

It's been 10 years since Ava has seen Matthew. He's bigger, better looking, and best of all - completely single. Despite his history with her sister, the attraction between Ava and Matthew isn't so one-sided anymore. It's hot enough to burn down the entire city of Seattle.

But this headline is far more complicated to write. And not just for the press or what it means for her family - because once her heart is involved, there's no predicting the ending.

Contains mature themes.

Second chance romance

The Ex Effect by Karla Sorensen is the second book in the Washington Wolves Series, which is a second chance, sports romance.

Ava is the publisher relationships manager of a football team and Matthew has come out of retirement to join the wolves. Aka the team who works for.

These two have a whole of history from being Ava’s sisters ex, and the guy she had a crush on…ok maybe the guy she’s never forgotten about. And that feeling is mutual when Matthew’s eyes land on Ava.

Their relationship is secret, but full of passion and just for them.

The moment and anticipation of foreboding built in this story, and I just wanted to get through that so quickly, cause it’s the moment that changes everything in the story!

The story is dual POV’s from both Ava and Matthew.

Good enough listen but the female narrator made me struggle to finish

The first book in this series was great - this one had a good story line, male narrator was really good, the female narrator was too in her own voice - until she tried to use a different voice for different characters and her "male" voice was just awful. I really struggled and won't be going any further with the series if she is listed. Such a pity .
