Publisher's Summary
They stole his crown. So, he stole their daughter…
For years, Erik, the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, has thought of nothing but vengeance against the man who killed his father and trapped him beneath the waves, making him a prisoner in his own realm.
Until his enemy's daughter unintentionally breaks the chains on the Ever, and Erik makes her the unwitting pawn in his vicious game of revenge.
She's innocent. He's vicious. He will take back what he lost, no matter the price. Unless she steals his heart first.
Welcome to the passionate world of the Ever Kingdom, where pirates, sirens, and fae collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a villain and the innocent princess who holds his heart.
This book ends on a cliffhanger. This series is set in the same world as the bestselling Broken Kingdoms series but can be listened to independently.

Spicy Pirate Romantasy? Yes please
It took me a little bit to get into this book but by the middle I was hooked!! Oh dear, pirate joke already hehe. I had heard lots of good reviews for this spicy pirate romantasy and they didn’t let me down!
Personally I didn’t love either of the narrators. Will Thorne’s voice definitely gave pirate vibes, whereas Lucy rivers was just definitely not the right fit for this book. She has very instalove voice and I just didn’t feel like it fit the character she was reading? And it sounded disjointed the way she would read the male point of view compared to when Will read his POV.
In saying that I’m still happy I listened to the audiobook

Reading this for the plot (Erik)
Enjoyed the story. Had to slow down the listening speed, Lucy Rivers reads too quickly, and she had Livia sounding a little too ‘damsel in distress’ than she needed. Some Stockholm Syndrome covered over by a heart bond, which is totally acceptable in fantasy and romance. I’d fall for Erik too.

Love for-EVER
Truely enjoyed every bit of this book and the sexual tension that was well placed and balanced between the action, the discovery of darkness and light throughout the plot and the characters of this book.
The character building is done in such a great way IMO, so that you are along for the ride, as they come to know themselves and each other cannot wait to read the second book.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant
This will forever be one of my favourite romantasy comfort reads and this audiobook did not disappoint.
The storyline is beautiful, heart wrenching and filled with angst for these fated mates, whom also should be forbidden to one another. Lucy and Will did an excellent job bringing all the characters alive with their different dialects and performed them well.
So glad to have heard the story come alive and be able to reimagine the journey once more.

A slow burn
A slow burn that set up the world the story was set in, together with the connections Erik and Livia had from the beginning and through to when they met again.
I read on Kindle and read along on Audible with fair audio.

Brilliant story, jarring narration
This book is so entertaining. Great story, wonderful world building and top tier banter and romance.
I often tandem read between kindle and audible, and I found the narrators on this quite jarring.
The female was ok, but I felt her voice far too mature. The male was so off for me. Nothing about his voice or tone matched the character in my mind. Instead of Orlando Bloom vibes the narrator gives off a gruff Jason Statham.
Overall amazing story & book though.

Unexpectedly interesting!
I was unsure about whether to read this one but I really enjoyed it. I love books where there is a strong connection that exists beyond magical bonds. And the pirate themed story had me hooked. I got to the end and didn’t want to put it down. I’ve had other books that have hooked me more than this one but this one was still unexpected and I decided to see what happens in book 2 :)

Epic in all aspects.
This is a fantastic story. A new favourite for me that I will be reading/listening to again and again. It’s like ACOTAR meets Pirates of The Caribbean. It’s daring and bloodthirsty, full of adventure, passion and a love story is at the heart of it all. Eric is one of my favourite characters ever. With his dark history and a heart that was taught to hate, but instead fought for love and a better world. He’s a delightfully complicated hero. Definitely recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.
