Publisher's Summary

2019 was the last great year for the world economy.

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it.

America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Globe-spanning supply chains are only possible with the protection of the U.S. Navy. The American dollar underpins internationalized energy and financial markets. Complex, innovative industries were created to satisfy American consumers. American security policy forced warring nations to lay down their arms. Billions of people have been fed and educated as the American-led trade system spread across the globe.

All of this was artificial. All this was temporary. All this is ending.

In The End of the World is Just the Beginning, author and geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan maps out the next world: a world where countries or regions will have no choice but to make their own goods, grow their own food, secure their own energy, fight their own battles, and do it all with populations that are both shrinking and aging.

The list of countries that make it all work is smaller than you think. Which means everything about our interconnected world - from how we manufacture products, to how we grow food, to how we keep the lights on, to how we shuttle stuff about, to how we pay for it all - is about to change.

A world ending. A world beginning. Zeihan brings readers along for an illuminating (and a bit terrifying) ride packed with foresight, wit, and his trademark irreverence.

Proven wrong already

Nice yarn and some quite interesting ideas but have now given up well before the end. The content is already proven wrong only one year after publishing and while I like to listen to new ideas I don't like being provided opinion as if it were fact.

A funny and Horrifical read

Grab yourself a coffee and put on your adult sized diaper. As this book is a very interesting collection of horrific facts and predictions, that would make any non American soil themselves. If you are American, then it's probably nice relaxing read. But else where it's going to be Mad Max rules. Where the sweet release of death will be a blessing. All that aside. The author is a very charismatic and funny writer, who does an excellent job at sugaring the pill. Maybe not a book for your Tony Robins positive thinker types. But maybe a excellent warning for the problems that the world might face in the future. And maybe it can inspire some great minds to solve some of these problems over the horizon.

Very entertaining

Zoomed through the book, and its very informative. I just also had in the back of my mind to take any 'end of the system' prediction with a grain of salt, and wasn't entirety convinced of the extent to which global order would collapse (especially if china does collapse as suggested, then the usa is back to having hedgemony)

Very in-depth, very passionate

This is ridiculously in-depth and comprehensive to actual geopolitical movements in a crisis. Very good and very thorough. The passion is really good to hear, although american exaggeration of words sometimes gets me. Loved every minute of it. COmpelling, insightful, scenarioes I hadn't thought about or heard of yet. Very good. My new go-to book.

Magnum Opus

I am so glad that Zeihan has narrated this book himself. He is so fun to listen to in his own voice.

As for the content, this is yet another incredible digest of a world of facts and figures. It may be too late to prevent much of the damage but having a clear eyed estimate of what's coming helps us prepare. Thank you.

As an Australian Turtle I found this book especially detailed about my region and a healthy mix of challenge and opportunity. The accuracy in this book regarding my region is an amazing step up. Well done.

Fascinating listen

I enjoyed this very much. It takes a few go throughs to get a grasp. I often got lost in thought over certain parts. While working I would play it and it caused great conversations with co workers.
