About this listen
If you don't know Simon Scarrow, you don't know Rome!
The Eagle in the Sand is the action-packed seventh novel in Simon Scarrow's best-selling Eagles of the Empire series. Essential reading for fans of Bernard Cornwell.Judaea in AD 46. Roman centurions Cato and Macro have been posted to Judaea for a 'hearts and minds' operation. The Empire needs to win over the locals after some of their religious figures have started revolts - and since the Romans crucified the last charismatic Judaean leader, the natives' rebellions have become bolder.
Not only are these small villages causing trouble, but there are also thousands of Parthians eager to fight Rome. With the threat of suicide attacks and even all-out war, Cato and Macro have their peace-keeping work cut out....

Brilliant
Great way of bringing christianity into the story, I would imagine that is how Christians were born I thought that was a great book in the series my favorite so far.

Battle scenes spectacular.
Well plotted, superb narration, rich character development and a breakneck pace of deceit, warfare and deadly danger. His best audiobook yet for me which surprised as it was my least favourite book.

Masterful Story telling
Ansolutely addicted to Simon Scarrow's novels. There's something about historical fiction or historical drama that fascinates me. You can learn something about the past and travel to different places that are real, that actually exist. But it feels personal because your experiencing it through the lens of Cato and Marco.

continues to please!
Cato and Macro in the Middle East, just at the start of Christianity.Interesting historical backdrop as the characters continue to develop. They're currently negotiating a tricky point in their lives where Cato's growing capabilities begin to overtake his mentor's.

Narrator is awful
I'm really not a fan of when a series changes narrators, especially more than once. The first 3 books had David Thorpe (awesome) the next two were John Keeble (also awesome) The we come to this guys awful entrance to the stage. This guy cant even pronounce the word Legate (in a Roman series!) and changes the accent of macro from southern to a Manchester accent? No continuity and why does Vespasian sound like a bad batman impression?! I've looked ahead and its all Keeble. But honestly if this guy narrated any more id abandon the series no matter how much I like the author.
