About this listen

"When the film begins, she has no idea what she is about to see. Nor does she realize what devastating consequences this film and the decisions she then makes will have on the rest of her life."

The body of a young woman is found carved up and buried in a forest glade in an innocuous Swedish suburb. Alex Recht and his team in the Stockholm Police soon identify the body as belonging to missing student Rebecca Trolle, but as his team continues to excavate the site, they soon find that someone has been returning to the same spot to bury their victims year after year, decade after decade.

Investigative Analyst Fredrika Bergman is assigned the task of delving into Rebecca's private life. But little does she know that her enquiries are about to uncover evidence that will put her actions under scrutiny from Internal Affairs and will throw her private life into turmoil.

And what does the case have to do with the elderly children's author living in a care home...who has never spoken a word to anyone since she arrived years ago?

Terrific mystery

I thoroughly enjoyed The Disappeared. Whilst I initially found some of the narrator Maggie Mash's character voices inauthentic, I soon became used to them and the narration worked for me.
A great story with a macabre focus and a large number of different threads pulling both apart and together.
This was my first title by this author but won't be my last.

Impossible to follow the narration

The female narrator tries to do male voices and comes off sounding like a pompous Victorian-era gentlemen who might be recovering from a stroke and voices any woman older than about 30 as geriatric with over-pronounced. The narrators nature voice is quite nice - I suggest don't try and do all these character accents/ages it's far too distracting.

English translation is a little clunky in places, can't help but feel some of the story would have sounded much better in Swedish.

Not one of her best

Long winded , convoluted and very poor plot. The story does not hang together at all well.
