About this listen
Fully updated throughout.
Why do most diets fail? Why does one person eat a certain meal and gain weight, while another eating the same meal loses pounds? Why, despite all the advice about what to eat, are we all still getting fatter?
The answers are much more surprising - and fascinating - than we've been led to believe. The key to health and weight loss lies not in the latest fad diet, nor even in the simple mantra of 'eat less, exercise more', but in the microbes already inside us.
Drawing on the latest science and his own pioneering research, Professor Tim Spector demystifies the common misconceptions about fat, calories, vitamins and nutrients. Only by understanding what makes our own personal microbes tick can we overcome the confusion of modern nutrition and achieve a healthy gut and a healthy body.

Good, informative book.
Just the right amount of anecdotes and science. Similar conclusions regarding diet as those such as Michael Pollen et al come to. Much more info on gut microbes though. Recommend this book to anyone even slightly interested in health.

Invaluable
Very important and valuable insights into human nutrition and microbiome health. It is very balanced making comment on many other notable studies such as The China Study

Knowledgeable, informative and entertaining
First time I've done a review on an audible book, loved this book so much that I knew I had to give it 5 stars. Who'd have known the human gut biome could have such far reaching consequences. Definitely a must-read for anyone wanting to improve their health and/or for weight loss.

wow just wow
I have been diversifying my families diets for a number of years based on the eat more than 30 plants notion and probiotic and prebiotic foods which I now presume stemmed from Tim and his colleagues. Glad to see that I am on the right path. Based on the knowledge I gained from this book I have really up'd the anti and have even bought seeds of certain plants to add them to my vegetable patch and we are drinking jun, water kefir, milk kefir and have kombucha scoby on order. Watch out kids, Mum is on a war path to set your guts up for life as much as possible

a new type of gardening
Very interesting.
A lot of this i already knew, it was good to have it confirmed.
A few new concepts here and there made it a very interesting read.
On the downside I found it very long and had to leave it now and then.
But it is one I wll refer to, time and again.

This changes EVERYTHING
Discard everything you think you know about diet and be prepared to be happily surprised.
This book is fascinating and very helpful for dispelling myths and making sense of what science now knows about what we eat and how it affects us.
There is a lot of science talk which can make it hard to concentrate, but Tim does a good job of delivering the key info in laymans terms after explaining the science stuff.
Personally I enjoyed Gildart's narration but accept that it could be jarring for some

BMI
Very good but lost me when mentions BMI. How this is used to measure anything is beyond me…BMI does not account for compounds.
