This book is objectively terrible.

Rarely have I experienced something so truly painful as listening to this book. And I don't mean 'so bad it's good'. Oh, no. It's misogynistic, kink-shaming, casually racist, vaguely homophobic, and just generally awful. From its hackneyed themes to its predictability, to its grammatical errors it is - start to finish - a misery to endure. In fact, I only did so in order to be able to review it in all fairness, in hopes I might warn others from this path. There is nary a hint of true horror; the protagonist is a spineless moron who annoyed me more than almost any character could...and all without any real personal journey. I read this in tandem with a friend, and we bemoaned every 'page'. But together we pressed on. And it got no better. Now it is finally over I feel empty, as though those hours of my life have been irrevocably ripped from me by an author who appears to have never considered doing any actual research before deciding to sit down and live out his fantasies by writing this. I can't believe he's so far along in his career - this smacks of 'first novel'.

Oh, and to make matters worse, the narration is awful...random mid-sentence pauses, dry tone, and odd emphases. But to be fair, what was supposed to do with this monstrosity? better he than I to try to make anything of this. Negative stars across the board.
