About this listen
The Mercenary Librarians and the Silver Devils are back in The Devil You Know, the next installment of USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Kit Rocha's post-apocalyptic action and romance, with hints of Orphan Black and The Avengers
Maya has had a price on her head from the day she escaped the TechCorps. Genetically engineered for genius and trained for revolution, there's only one thing she can't do—forget.
Gray has finally broken free of the Protectorate, but he can't escape the time bomb in his head. His body is rejecting his modifications, and his months are numbered.
When Maya's team uncovers an operation trading in genetically enhanced children, she'll do anything to stop them. Even risk falling back into the hands of the TechCorps.
And Gray has found a purpose for his final days: keeping Maya safe.

Love this series!
Adored Maya and Gray’s story—not to mention even more found family goodness, and the broader plot of the brewing revolution :)
A bit of feedback on the narration this time: love this narrator, but it felt like maybe this recording was rushed? There were a lot of times where the wrong emphasis was put on the words and the meaning was twisted (e.g. one that implied they were going to kill a child, rather than kill everyone between them and the child to protect them!), and a lot of times she used the wrong voice for the dialogue (her voices are so great and recognisable, so it was really confusing when the wrong “voice” delivered dialogue). There was also a touch of irony in that the FMC has auditory sensitivities (characterisation done so well by the author!), and the narrator’s voice was… well… moist? a lot of the time, like they needed to stop and swallow more frequently. I have some auditory sensitivities myself, so it was hard going when things got sloshy. You are probably thinking “what a weird thing to point out!” and you’d be right, it probably isn’t something most would notice—but I just wanted to give a heads up for listeners sensitive to that kind of thing. I didn’t notice it in book 1 at all, which is why I wonder if this one was rushed and that impacted the final recording.
Overall, I loved this, would recommend it and can’t wait for the next in the series—I hope this gently intentioned feedback makes it to the powers that be for book 3’s recording, as the source material is so fabulous, and the narrator is so skilled—I want to hear them both smash it together next time ;)
Also if Tor are listening: we want more of these! After book 2, I can sense at least an Ava/Mace and Conall as potential future books! Please give the people what they want :)
