About this listen

A sharp, witty, and hugely entertaining debut novel, The Devil Wears Prada is The Nanny Diaries set in the world of high fashion. Welcome to the dollhouse, baby! When Andrea first sets foot in the plush Manhattan offices of Runway she knows nothing. She's never heard of the world's most fashionable magazine, or its feared and fawned-over editor, Miranda Priestly. But she's going to be Miranda's assistant, a job millions of girls would die for. A year later, she knows altogether too much: That it's a sacking offence to wear anything lower than a three-inch heel to work. But that there's always a fresh pair of Manolos for you in the accessories cupboard. That Miranda believes Hermes scarves are disposable, and you must keep a life-time supply on hand at all times. That eight stone is fat. That you can charge cars, manicures, anything at all to the Runway account, but you must never, ever, leave your desk, or let Miranda's coffee get cold. And that at 3 a.m. on a Sunday, when your boyfriend's dumping you because you're always at work, and your best friend's just been arrested, if Miranda phones, you jump. Most of all, Andrea knows that Miranda is a monster who makes Cruella de Ville look like a fluffy bunny. But also that this is her big break, and it's going to be worth it in the end. Not as good as the film

The narratress is good, although all the screeching queers (of which there are many) tend to sound the same and, embarrassingly for a grown women, she doesn't know how to pronounce some words (she says gallantly gallAHNtly, genteel JOHNteal and thinks British people pronounce Miranda MirAHNda). The book, it goes without saying, is awfully-written, though much more bearable in audio than in written firm. The story itself dues have a kind of trashy enjoyability, however.

Better Than The Film and No Nate

The story had me on edge and the narrative was well read and very amusing. I found myself laughing at certain times and feeling a slight case of fear when I heard “Andrea!” mentioned in an highly classed English accent.

The film was okay but the major let down was Andi’s unsupportive boyfriend Nate, so glad he wasn’t in the story.

The story itself is amazing but the narrating was what made me love it oh so much more.

Great delivery of an amusing book.

I always wanted to read this book but haven't had the time to read a thing. Laurel's delivery made it easy to follow, clear and well accented. I could kidwrangle, do housework and read at the same time without getting confused.

Loved the movie, but doesn’t compare with the book

I always like the authors version, rather than the movie, and although the movie was one of my favourites the book is better.
What a dragon lady.
Is future promotion worth the horror stint with this boss?
Andreas life was a nightmare.

The main character is a narcissist. No character development.

The main character is a narcissist. No character development. Watch the movie. You won’t miss anything if you read the book.
