About this listen
Robbery, arson, murder, and the one night stand that just won't end.
With 11 missing women to find and six high-profile burglary cases to solve, the last thing Detective Nathan McNamara needs in his life is one more complication. And that's exactly what his recent one-night stand is becoming - complicated. With his heinous lieutenant breathing down his neck for answers and his accidental girlfriend dropping hints for a commitment, Nathan is realizing that his career and his bachelor status are both on the line.
When the burglary cases suddenly escalate to homicide, Nathan must put everything else aside to stop the killer. But this is easier said than done when the blonde from the bar repeatedly shows up at his doorstep and enlists his own mother against him. Now he's more convinced than ever that his job hangs in the balance and that the Surgeon General's warning on the whiskey bottle should include something about women.

Not very interesting
The plot was weak and the characters annoying, especially the gf and the mother, but the hero was (not) thinking with his little brain too much and did not standing up for himself. The mystery…. wasn’t.
Whilst not awful, this author has done much better work.

such a great story
Would you consider the audio edition of The Detective to be better than the print version?
I'm really not an audio book kind of person, prints will always take precedence but Carsen Beck makes the book spring to life.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Nathan is my favourite character in this book which is hardly surprising, considering this is his story.
What does Carson Beck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
His voice is very similar to the voice I created for Nathan when I read the book
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
ah so many but to outline any would have to be given with a spoiler alert. The pending death of Nathan's bachelorhood had me seriously laughing out loud.
Any additional comments?
This is a great book, and it really leaves you wanting more, which is just as well there are a further 3 books available and a 4th on the way (soon yes Elicia??).
I am more than a little surprised that I enjoyed listening to the audio book as much as I did, I'm a total newbie to this format I've always avoided it as I love my books, I can hear and see them in my own head and having someone else put voice to those characters I was always scared that they would diminish the story somehow, this is not the case with Carsen doing the reading. I took everyone out for a walk this morning, something you really can't do with a book without taking your life into own hands lol I exercised and was entertained all at the same time.
The book introduced me to a few character I'd be happy to slap, Carsen did not dissuade me of my compulsions. I was laughing out loud on more than a couple of times and groaning out loud at other times.
Nathan is now a solid 3D character
I would rate the story a 6 or more but it wouldn't let :(
