Wallie Smith had been dying on another world when the Goddess transferred his mind to the body of the barbarian swordsman Shonsu. A few complications cropped up. Wallie's reputation was in tatters. His best friend and pupil was apparently planning to betray him. And if he won, he would doom all hope of progress and learning in this World of the Goddess - doom the Goddess Herself. It made an interesting kind of riddle. All he had to do was find the solution - and survive, if he could!

great and satisfying end (or beginning)

This really wrapped up the adventure and Wally's journey for me, with a bit of a twist to how you think it will end or what you thought was Wally's quest. While I found parts hard to listen to, as Wally was more Shonsu than Wally, and at first found the character switch odd and unexplained, it did make more sense as all the pieces came together and he made good in the end...and he really did choose good. This is not a swordsman adventure story, bit of an ethical man of a modern world and modern values trying to live in another world and time, and body, and it made it a more interesting adventure. glad it stood the test of time for me.
