About this listen

A number-one New York Times best seller.

Luke Price's life has always been about order, control, and acting tough on the outside. He uses meaningless relationships as a distraction and a way to tune out the twisted memories of his childhood. He secretly wishes that one day he could find that one perfect person, but deep down he doesn't believe that perfection really exists. Violet Hayes has had a rough life, surrounded by drugs, neglect, and irresponsible parents. She thought she could escape that kind of life when she went to college, but her past catches up with her. To protect herself from getting hurt, she acts tough and keeps her distance from everyone. But then she meets Luke. The two of them clash, yet they can't seem to stay away from each other. The more they get to know one another, the more they realise just how similar their lives are, and that maybe the perfection they've always been looking for lies in each other.

Long, angsty and intense

* Possibly some minor spoilers *

So I was expecting this book to be so different then what it actually was. I was a little disappointed to see that Kayden & Callie basically disappear in this one. I thought they would all stick together like they did in the first 2 books and welcome Violet into the group. Not the case at all! I really thought maybe Callie & Violet would become friends but they don’t even talk.

So we meet a whole different side to Luke in this book and it kind of shocked me. I didn’t realise how closed off and distant he was from the interactions he had in the first 2 books. But getting inside his head really showed how messed up he was as well. Seriously this group of friends has so much baggage it’s crazy lol. I thought Kayden & Callie had issues. Well turns out Luke & Violets issues are almost more intense. Violet is a little crazy tbh and super damaged internally as well. I loved watching her & Luke finally start to heal each other but then BAM the cliff hanger of all cliff hangers. Even though I totally picked up on it from Luke’s earlier flash backs it was nasty to end the book there! And the rest of the series isn’t on Audible yet so I’m devastated!

This book felt like a super long journey and had so much angst as the characters dance around their feelings the whole way until basically the end. Although there are intimate scenes I wouldn’t call it a spicy book. Lots of confused emotionally stunted passion though lol! Luke really drove me a little crazy because his actions never matched what was happening in his head. For example he’s literally sitting there with a girl on his lap thinking screw Violet and the way she makes me feel I’m going to bang the hell out of this chick... next minute he’s breaking down Violets door to make sure she isn’t getting it on with another guy. The double standard killed me and what made it worse was Violet never called him on it either.

Narrators were great, I felt they really fit the characters.
