About this listen
James Denney was a Scottish New Testament scholar, pastor, and theologian (1856 - 1917). The author was convinced that the death of Christ was not given the proper importance in the common Christian mind, measured against its centrality in the New Testament. The purpose of the evangelical and theological work The Death of Christ is thus to explain the place held by the death of Christ in the scriptures, and the interpretation put upon it by the apostolic writers. He argues that the doctrine of the death of Christ and its significance is the gospel of St. Paul, and that the death of Christ is a demonstration of God’s love which can never be surpassed.

So grateful for this classic and God’s servant James Denney DD
The Death of Christ by Denney is a thorough comprehensive survey of the New Testament’s centrality and he argues the central transforming truth of the death of Christ in the Bible and to real Christianity (real religion). I enjoyed Denney’s style and the many succinct and wonderful quotable quotes. Denney obviously deals with historic and contemporary ideas surrounding Christ’s death but this makes it all the more valuable because most of these are still around today. Denney gives a compelling and rousing stir-up to the everyday believer but especially to Ministers and Pastors to persevere in preaching the Christ’s death as the central tenet of the Christian faith and he regards those who don’t on the slippery slide. An exceptional work with fruitful outcomes for anyone who reads and listens to it. The narrator unfortunately seems unfamiliar with Koine Greek and the pronunciation of other words and at times appears to pause at incorrect times but despite these disappointments this book is wonderful and so so helpful on this subject.
