Publisher's Summary
Sixteen-year-old Billy and his brother Boyd are fascinated by an elusive wolf that has been marauding his family's ranch. Billy captures the animal - but rather than kill it, sets out impulsively for the mountains of Mexico to return it to where it came from.
Billy returns, finding himself and his world have irrevocably changed. His loss of innocence has come at a price, and once again the border beckons with its desolate beauty and cruel promise.

Brilliant
Narration is just brilliant.
Another sprawling desolate epic from McCarthy.
The final scene with the wolf had me crying into my eye mask.
Like all of his novels, plenty of gut punches along the way.

Powerful novel with an incredible narration
This offers a pretty unrelenting and bleak look into the American experience, filled with death, murder, stoicism and plenty of tortillas and beans. McCarthy’s stripped back prose hides a complex internal world where we lack the language to properly process the world around us.

Haunting and Harrowing
The novels of the Border Trilogy are powerful works. Whilst essentially banal tales of mundane existence, McCarthy's brilliant language brings such pathos and understanding to the lives of these characters as to make them familiar. Their motivations, memories and experiences continue to flood my mind long after finishing the final pages.

Beautifully written
Thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The author's style of writing absorbed me from the outset - a true example of painting pictures with words. The narration was pleasing and befitting the story.
