About this listen
Superstitions only survive if people believe in them...
Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen—until they arrive...
The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown. A nameless fear stalks the streets...
Nobody will talk—nobody except one little girl. Her story strikes dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night he comes closer...
That night, Ben and Chloe see a sinister figure watching them. He is the Creeper. He is the nameless fear in the night. Stories keep him alive. And nothing will keep him away...
The Creeper is a masterful tale of horror and suspense, by one of Ireland's most talented emerging authors.

Narrator did a terrific job with the material
I enjoyed the story but ‘Watchers’ is the superior novel. Themes are similar across the stories and plot points too. Lots of plot holes become clear once we reach the reveals.

3.5 stars!
I gave it a 3.5⭐️ which is still a good book to me, it’s just not my favourite so it didn’t quite hit the 4⭐️ mark for me. (I reserve 5⭐️ for books I was absolutely obsessed with)
This was my first time listening to an audiobook and the narration by Aidan Kelly was really enjoyable! At times Aidan’s voice reminded me of Matt Berry X Willem Dafoe but with an Irish accent.
He gave the characters plenty of depth and distinction through his storytelling. Although I was confused that it jumped around a little bit in the beginning which was confusing due to the audiobook aspect.
This book was bloody eerie, especially the little girl. I had to stop 10 chapters in to take a shower and I was so freaked out and on edge the entire time, I didn’t even blow dry my hair afterwards because I was too scared to drop my guard 😂
But (for me) as soon as we learnt the history of the creeper it really lost all it’s scare factor so the 2nd half of the book felt slower paced than it previously had, but picked back up in the last few chapters.
The description of the creeper sounded more disgusting rather than terrifying (although I’m sure that would be different seeing it in person)
At one point I was convinced that Alec was the creeper, so was glad to get the chapter from his POV.
Ben’s ex is infuriating and pissed me off, I cannot stand women who pull the whole “oh you’re always working so when you do call to speak to your daughter I’m going to say no because it’s easier for me” just because they don’t like the man who got them pregnant 🙄😒
Personally I like it when there’s not a happy ending at the end of horror movies/books because the main characters always sip dumb bitch juice throughout the whole thing so it feels fair that they get what they brought upon themselves. But if you don’t like this kind of ending then this story probably isn’t for you.
As creepy as it was at parts, I couldn’t stop listening and finished it in one day! It would make a great movie!

A few too many irritants
Main lead was annoying. Too many times where simple activity like leaving a tent seemed to cause massive physical and emotional distress. Premise was good but did require suspension of credulity at times. Other reviewers hated the ending. They should be commended for getting there.
