About this listen

Tegan is eight months pregnant, alone, and desperately wants to put her crumbling life in the rearview mirror. So she hits the road, planning to stay with her brother until she can figure out her next move. But she doesn't realize she's heading straight into a blizzard.

She never arrives at her destination.

Stranded in rural Maine with a dead car and broken ankle, Tegan worries she's made a terrible mistake. Then a miracle occurs: she is rescued by a couple who offers her a room in their warm cabin until the snow clears.

But something isn't right. Tegan believed she was waiting out the storm, but as time ticks by, she comes to realize she is in grave danger. This safe haven isn't what she thought it was, and staying here may have been her most deadly mistake yet.

And now she must do whatever it takes to save herself—and her unborn child.

A gut-wrenching story of motherhood, survival, and twisted expectations, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden delivers a snowbound thriller that will chill you to the bone.

Great as always

Well depicted plot. Characters pictured clearly. And as usual, when you think you have worked out the story, there is yet another twist or two to keep you guessing

4/5

I love Freida McFadden, but found this book quite predictable, sadly. Still enjoyable, but it doesn't have the jaw dropping wow factor plot twist I was expecting, like many of her other books do.

Intrigue

As usual I was waiting for the twists and turns. The author never disappoints! I’m now looking for the next book.

Mixed Feelings

Firstly, I must say I'm a lover of Freida McFadden's books, but at various times I either liked or disliked this book. I don't think it was one of Freida's best. There were times in the book where I almost felt like fast forwarding it, and I felt the end had been poorly manufactured in an attempt to pull the plot together. What I did like was the way Frieda showed that assumptions people make because of gender and looks; the creation of the 3 main characters was excellent. I will be interested to see what other listeners and readers think.

Start at your peril

I’ve liked a couple Freida McFadden books, but this was simply awful. About a third of the way in I thought, maybe it’ll turn around. Halfway in I wondered why I was still listening. Honestly, I kept on listening because it got to a point where I was only doing so to relish in how bad it was.
To start with, the story is boring, predictable and feels like a rip off of herself as well as others.

The writing, of all characters, is painfully tormented, like an unbelievable stream of consciousness. Reading the characters’ obvious misapprehensions about the others was particularly painful when the misapprehensions were baseless.

The main character is idiotic and shallow. No substance whatsoever.
Same can be said for the secondary main character.
The plot twists are absurd, and leave you going ‘what’ - not in a good way, they’re just inherently unbelievable.

The narrator did a good job with dreadful material.

Do not waste your time, unless you’re in the mood to hate on something.

Awful

This was my first Freida McFadden book and I’ll struggle to ever pick up another. This was boring, predictable and so damn repetitive. It just droned on and on and on. Two main female characters were frustrating and not believable in any way.

over the top, too many sub-plots. the fetus talking to mother in utero was ridiculous.

Save yourself

Sorry Freida definitely not your best book!! I normally love all your books but this was a big let down. It repeated itself all the way through the story was not strong and very predictable! You could save yourself listen to the last part and still catch up on everything 😢😢
