Publisher's Summary
An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him.
For every innocent man sent to prison, there is a guilty one left on the outside. He doesn't understand how the police and prosecutors got the wrong man, and he certainly doesn't care. He just can't believe his good luck. Time passes and he realizes that the mistake will not be corrected: the authorities believe in their case and are determined to get a conviction. He may even watch the trial of the person wrongly accused of his crime. He is relieved when the verdict is guilty. He laughs when the police and prosecutors congratulate themselves. He is content to allow an innocent person to go to prison, to serve hard time, even to be executed.
Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.
Now nine years have passed. Travis has just been paroled in Kansas for a different crime; Donté is four days away from his execution. Travis suffers from an inoperable brain tumor. For the first time in his miserable life, he decides to do what's right and confess.
But how can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they're about to execute an innocent man?

Must Read / Listen i.e. Devour any way you can
Couldn't stop listening. I like a lot of John Grisham's novels, although I've never actually read one, it's always been on audio. This one hit me very hard. The detail of writing, the process of the appeals leading right up until the 11th hour, and the aftermath. I could not fault any part of this book.

Thought it would be predictable!!
This is quite possibly the best Grisham book I’ve read - and I’ve read most of them!
I thought I knew what was going to happen, but …. !!
I loved every minute of it - every detail. I love books that finish by giving you all that you want to know!! Oh and this book definitely makes that emotional connection, I cried numerous times!!

I couldn’t stop listening
Another great John Grisham novel and one that I surprisingly missed when it was first published.
The story was well paced and had a good range of characters to keep it ticking along. Not a huge courtroom thriller like other books of his but enough legal drama to keep you guessing and propel the story beyond the courtroom.

Thought provoking
I love a book that you can’t wait to get back to. A book that I think about even when I’m not listening to it. This story is one those books.

Loved every thing about this book. A real eye-opener into what could really go on . Shameful, should never happen in todays world. As always John Grisham writes brilliant stories. Well done!
