Critic Reviews

" The Companions is the best novel [R.A.] Salvatore has ever written. It's insanely courageous, profoundly powerful, masterfully constructed, and easily Salvatore's most ambitious work to date." (Paul Goat Allen, BarnesandNoble.com)
"After a quarter of a century, R.A. Salvatore just keeps getting better and better, and The Companions is another masterful leap forward for one of the greatest fantasy epics of all time." (Philip Athans, best-selling author of Annihilation and The Haunting of Dragon's Cliff)

Solid start to a new series

There's a great story here, both for those old school fans and newcomers. There are lots of references to adventure of old, that long time readers will appreciate. Yet this is well balanced with character development which allows it to be a great jumping in point for first time readers/listeners. Well written and well narrated.

Brilliant!

Reincarnation. Soulful reflection. Perfection of self. The inner journey. Within these themes Salvatore packs a captivating adventure for each of the heroes Bruennor, Catti-Brie, Regis and for a time, Wulfgar. The divinely appointed mission to aid Drizzt in his hour of need is a cleverly crafted tale of commitment to the bonds of friendship between the Companions of the Hall.

Pretty good apart from all of the Catti-brie

The action scenes featuring Regis and Bruenor are excellent, the story hits on many Forgotten Realms settings with wonderful details. The only let down are the chapters featuring the voice of Catti-brie, who sounds eternally whiny and limp-wristed.

Friends across the ages.

Absolutely loved this one. I enjoyed the details of the new lives for each of the old characters and the trials they faced being 'old souls', having to deal with who they currently are vs who they were (especially 'little R.R'). Glad to see the gang back together and looking forward to the next adventure.

Awful

Turgid writing and awful narration. I got about 2 hours in but couldn't finish it.
