About this listen
One of the great what-ifs among Pride & Prejudice aficionados is: If Mr. Collins married Mary Bennet instead of Charlotte Lucas, how would that influence Mr. Darcy's dogged pursuit of the elusive Elizabeth? In this breezy and hilarious re-telling of Jane Austin's classic novel, the author explores what would have changed - and what would have not - had two of literature's most self-righteous characters found their way together. Elizabeth Bennet goes to Kent with her sister Jane, and the fur flies! A wonderful, mad-cap romp!

From serious to ridiculous! 🤔
This story was mostly worth $14.95 even though there were quite large blocks of dialogue given over totally to the original words spoken by various characters in Pride and Prejudice. Take these blocks away and this book would be short indeed.
Still, the storyline was entertaining enough until the last couple of chapters where it just became a farce. The fates of various secondary characters were dealt with in these final chapters and those fates ranged from the sublime to utterly ridiculous. It quite changed my appreciation of the book. I am not without a sense of humour; I can appreciate farce as much as anyone else, but not when the story to date has been of a serious nature.
Another thing that spoiled the ‘mood’ for me was the narrator. She had all of the male characters sounding exceedingly effeminate, and when it comes to Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam especially, and even Bingley and Mr Bennet, I, as a lover of P&P, want these gentlemen to sound like men, not delicate ladies.
The best thing that can be said for Jo Ashes is that (and I cannot find the nationality of Jo on Google) her accent is British. I am sorry to give pain to anyone, but this is my opinion I’m afraid.
My star reviews are 2 1/2 stars each for overall and narrator and 3 1/2 stars for story.

Stronger Characters
Jack Caldwell writes an alternate plot based on Jane Austen's original novel Pride and Prejudice. There is more dialogue and action between the men of this story. (JA never wrote a scene without women in it as this was outside her realm of familiarity.) I appreciated hearing details of gentlemanly dealing with scoundrełs, bargain making and estates. The believable narrative was enhanced by relevant sections of the original text yet not overwhelmed by them. Kept my interest throughout. Great fiction!
